Job description
Do you want to work for an organisation that values difference and includes everyone? Then the Environment Agency is the organisation for you!
This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate individual to join the Northeast Area Hydrometry and Telemetry (H&T) team.
Working mainly in field Telemetry and instrumentation, you will maintain, upgrade and improve our network to ensure the timely and accurate provision of data and alarms, alongside the use of hydrometry equipment which provides data and a service to our Flood Warning and Water resources customers.
You will:
Be involved in the day to day running of the North-East H&T network, ensuring it is efficient, resilient, and providing data of the desired standard
Learn to operate and install a variety of hydrometric instrumentation to national standards.
Be dynamic in prioritising your workload, responding to faults in alignment with the service level agreement in line with our client's needs.
Help expand our use of renewables within the network and reduce carbon emissions.
Provide excellent response to incident management, ensuring a robust and resilient network with a high degree of flexibility and operability
We strive to reflect the communities we serve and welcome applications from all backgrounds regardless of race, sexual orientation, and religion.
You'll have access to our great benefits package, including generous annual leave, an excellent pension, flexible working arrangements and the opportunity to be part of a variety of staff networks. We also offer extensive training to develop your career.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training, and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you.
The team
The North-East Hydrometry and Telemetry team manages and maintains a network of over 300 sites in the North-East of England that supplies vital data that underpins much of the Environment Agency's statutory responsibilities relating to flood forecasting and water resources.
Experience/skills required
We are seeking an individual preferably with field experience, but training will be provided for the right candidate. Ideally you would understand the role hydrometric data plays to our customers and partners. You'll be qualified to at least degree standard (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and/or possess the relevant skills: -
Enthusiasm and desire to learn new skills
Self-starter with dynamism, flexibility, and excellent work ethic
Happy to work in remote locations alone but work well in a team
Ability to manage personal workload and time.
Confident technical skills with equipment/computers
Other highly desirable requirements for this role include:
a passion for analysis and problem solving
living in, or a willingness to move to the Area
Contact and additional information
This role is a hybrid working role. The role is primarily a field-based role alongside office and Home-based working.
The role will be based at Darlington, but there will be frequent and often unscheduled travel across the North-East area to access remote field sites. As a result, the post requires a full UK driving licence.
Interviews are expected in June 2025. Please contact Mark Purvis on Mark.Purvis@environment-agency.gov.uk if there are any questions around the role.
We are awaiting further recruitment approval; further positions may become available so please do apply.
