Hygiene Lead



Purpose of the Role

To lead the hygiene function, ensuring the site maintains high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and audit readiness. This role also carries responsibility for the Health & Safety of the hygiene team, promoting a culture of safe, compliant working.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership Lead, coach, and support the hygiene team to deliver consistent results across all shifts. Audit Readiness
Ensure hygiene standards meet internal, BRC, and customer expectations at all times.

Cleaning Schedules
Own and maintain the Master Cleaning Schedule (MCS), including deep cleans and reactive cleans.Write and update Cleaning Instruction Cards (CICs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure clarity and compliance.Manage swabbing (ATP, allergen), visual inspections, and hygiene audits. Investigate failures and drive corrective actions.Deliver hygiene and safe cleaning method training. Ensure standards are understood and followed.Manage hygiene consumables, PPE, and chemicals within budget and in line with regulations.Work collaboratively with Production, Engineering, and Technical to align hygiene activity with operational needs.Use data to drive hygiene efficiency, reduce cleaning time, and improve standards.

Skills & Experience



CICs & SOPs Hygiene Verification Training & Standards Health & Safety Leadership Own hygiene team risk assessments and SSOWs (Safe Systems of Work) Ensure COSHH compliance and safe chemical handling Report and investigate incidents, hazards, or near misses Promote a proactive safety culture within the hygiene team Chemical & Stock Control Cross-Functional Working Continuous Improvement Hygiene leadership experience in a food manufacturing environment Competent in writing CICs, SOPs, risk assessments, and SSOWs Strong understanding of BRC, HACCP, COSHH, allergens, and Health & Safety legislation Experience leading teams and developing people Comfortable using data and audits to improve performance
Key Measures

Hygiene schedule completion % CIC/SOP and SSOW compliance Swab pass rates (ATP/allergen) Hygiene-related audit results Chemical usage per unit Re-clean rates Near miss / incident reporting and close-out
This role is Monday to Friday day shift however the successful candidate needs remain flexible to be able to cover evenings / nightshifts and weekends when/if required for deep cleans / holiday / sickness

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 28,000.00-32,000.00 per year
