Scope of Role
Avondale Foods is a leading food processing company of Fresh and Chilled products supplying leading retail businesses in the UK.
The purpose of this role is to ensure that the hygiene teams are fully trained, competent and work in a safe manner; to provide efficient and effective day to day leadership and direction to the hygiene teams onsite; to ensure compliance with business, customer and regulatory standards by planning and delivering high quality cleans and documenting them. Provide stand in cover in the absence of the hygiene manager. To lead by example and ensure that you and your team are adhering to company policies and procedures in relation to Product Quality, Food Safety and Integrity.
Key Responsibilities
The supervision of all personnel employed on the hygiene team;
To ensure that all hygiene operatives have the necessary training to perform to the highest standards;
To ensure that all hygiene operatives have the necessary training to carry out their tasks safely;
To ensure duties carried within Hygiene teams are conducted in accordance with food safety and hygiene standards;
To ensure that the factory conforms to factory GMP standards and are audit ready at all times;
To ensure that chemical is used correctly and to the correct concentration at all times;
To complete chemical concentration checks;
To ensure that all staff correctly wear the mandatory PPE for working on the factory floor and in washrooms;
Dismantle equipment within reason where applicable.
Fully acquaint yourself with all Cleaning Instruction Cards and Schedules for all departments, to ensure that the operatives are following the instructions given.
Fill in during periods of absence for the hygiene manager to ensure that administration procedures are maintained.
Play an active role in hygiene duties and washrooms that are short staffed during holiday and sickness periods as a hands-on approach is required.
Ensure that staff store all chemicals and cleaning equipment away at the end of each shift in accordance with GMP standards;
Conduct a routine check of all departments once all cleaning has been completed to ensure that the departments are left tidy.
Providing leadership and direction to the on-site hygiene teams. Ensuring your teams are focused, engaged and able to deliver.
Completing paperwork and reporting. To ensure that all records are stored properly, updated and accurate to audit standard.
To provide training on cleaning process (cleaning instruction cards), hygiene SOPs and COPs, health and safety and chemical safety;
To ensure food safety and health and safety standards are maintained across the teams and to investigate any failures. Instil a safety-conscious attitude and work methods into all your staff. Use disciplinary action, if necessary to ensure safe practices are followed;
To lead the department towards achieving results by coaching, developing and setting performance targets on a 1:1 basis;
To communicate effectively with your teams, your line manager and other key functions on site, for example operations, technical, hygiene team and maintenance to help plan jobs and to contribute to improvements inside and outside of the hygiene department;
To manage poor performance through counselling and disciplinary in accordance with Company procedures;
To control the use and stock of cleaning materials, chemicals and PPE to ensure that they are used effectively and efficiently, are available when needed and waste is minimised;
To ensure cleans are completed to schedule and to the site and customer standards, GMP hygiene standards are met, internal and external audits are passed;
To lead by example by adhering to Company general policies, i.e., Food Safety, Health Safety, Absence, etc;
To drive forward hygiene standards in line with the company's continuous improvement ethos;
Available for and actively participate in customer audits;
Ensure Food Safety compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements to remain audit-ready at all times.
Contribute to the development of a culture of Integrity, collaboration ' do the right thing' approach in all interactions.
To undertake other appropriate duties as deemed necessary within the scope of the role

Person Specification
Essential
Basic level of both verbal and written English
Previous experience in a similar role
Good working knowledge of Microsoft package
Experienced in industrial deep cleaning procedures
