Hygiene Supervisor

Harthill, SCT, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Join our team!

At Lazy Day we have a mission: to create irresistible gluten-free, milk-free and egg-free vegan/plant-based goodies, hand baked with love. We use the very best ingredients in our own dedicated allergen-friendly bakery - because we think everyone deserves the occasional treat, especially when they're as joyfully delicious as ours.

If you are seeking a new challenge within a growing business and have previous experience in a similar role or are someone who would like to be part of a growing organisation that has the creation of the tastiest treats, products of the highest quality and the delight of our customers at the heart of everything we do, this could be the job for you.

The role

The Hygiene Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining and continuously improving hygiene standards across all production and operational areas. The position ensures compliance with food safety, health and safety, and quality standards while supporting certification, regulatory, customer, and brand requirements. The role contributes directly to Lazy Day Foods' commitment to producing safe, high-quality products in a clean and well-maintained environment.

Key responsibilities include:

Ensure all hygiene operations are carried out effectively and maintained to the required company, customer, and regulatory standards. Plan and deliver cleaning schedules that align with production requirements and audit standards (e.g., BRCGS, GMP). Carry out hygiene risk assessments to establish and review the frequency and scope of cleaning activities, ensuring they are appropriate for the risks associated with each area, process, and piece of equipment. Manage the hygiene budget and overseeing the procurement, storage, and use of hygiene consumables and chemicals, ensuring COSHH compliance and safe handling procedures. Liaise with external providers, including laundry and pest control contractors, ensuring services meet contractual and hygiene expectations. Manage hygiene-related facilities such as washrooms and staff welfare areas, ensuring supplies and equipment are maintained. Oversee waste segregation, handling, and disposal practices to maintain hygiene and environmental standards. Plan staffing levels and allocate tasks effectively to meet business and hygiene requirements. Ensure compliance with all relevant Food Safety Regulations and company standards. Ensure cleaning procedures effectively prevent allergen cross-contamination and that allergen changeovers are verified prior to production restarts. Participate in internal hygiene and GMP audits and follow up on actions to ensure timely closure. Communicate clearly with all employees, contractors, and visitors regarding site safety and hygiene standards. Ensure adequate first aid coverage and emergency procedures are maintained. Actively participate in accident or incident investigations related to hygiene or chemical handling, ensuring learnings are communicated and applied.
To succeed you'll need

To be passionate about bringing the Lazy Days smile to peoples' faces every day. Great team spirit and the commitment to be a valued part of a high performing team. To be a strong, independent, confident, and kind person with a great sense of humour and the ability to see things from other's perspectives to get the best outcomes. Proven experience in a hygiene supervisory or management role, preferably in food manufacturing or a related environment. Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills. Comprehensive understanding of Food Safety, HACCP, COSHH, and Health & Safety Regulations. Relevant qualifications such as Level 3 Food Hygiene, COSHH Assessor, or equivalent. Experience managing budgets, teams, and supplier relationships. High attention to detail, analytical mindset, and commitment to continuous improvement. Ability to interpret data, audits, and risk assessments to make informed hygiene decisions.
