Job Title: Imam
Location: London, UK
Employment Type: Full-time / Part-time
Salary: between 25,000 to 32,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications
Reports To: Mosque Committee / Board of Trustees
Contract Type: Fixed Term for 1 year with possible extension for up to 3 years

Overview


We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Imam to lead our community in spiritual guidance and religious education. The ideal candidate will possess strong public speaking skills and a passion for educating others about Islamic teachings and values. This role is pivotal in fostering a welcoming environment for worshippers and promoting community engagement.

Key Responsibilities



Religious Duties:

- Lead the five daily prayers, lead Jumu'ah (Friday) prayers, Ramadan taraweeh prayers and Eid prayers.

- Deliver Khutbahs (sermons) in English.

- Conduct religious ceremonies such as Nikah (marriage), Janazah (funeral), and Aqeeqah.

- Offer Quranic teaching and Islamic education to children, youth, and adults.

- Provide Fatwas or religious rulings when necessary (within agreed scope).

Community Engagement:

- Offer pastoral care, counselling, and spiritual advice to individuals and families.

- Visit the sick, elderly, and vulnerable members of the community when needed.

- Promote uniting the community, fostering brotherhood, and resolve their conflicts and represent the mosque at community events or outside gatherings.

- Organise and participate in community outreach programs and charitable activities.

- Provide spiritual counselling and guidance to individuals and families within the community.

Educational Roles:

- Teach Qur'an, Tajweed, Hadith, Fiqh, and Seerah in structured classes.

- Support youth development through Islamic programs, workshops, and events.

- Support madrasah operations and curriculum development.

Community Development Responsibilities:

- Assist in fundraising initiatives for mosque projects, charitable causes, and operational needs.

- Develop and implement programs that address the specific spiritual, educational, and social needs of the community.

- Foster relationships and collaborative initiatives with other faith groups and local organizations.

- Provide guidance and support to new Muslims and reverts as they embark on their journey of Islamic learning and integration.

- Plan and oversee inclusive programs tailored for youth, the elderly, and women, ensuring diverse community engagement.

Strategic Leadership:

- Collaborate with our Board of Trustees on community vision and strategy.

- ?Contribute to strategic planning for growth and development.

- Prepare reports for trustee's when required.

Advocacy & Outreach Responsibilities:

- Promote a positive and accurate representation of Islam within the broader community.

- Engage in meaningful dialogue and build relationships with civic leaders and public institutions.

- Serve as a spokesperson for the community across media channels and social platforms.

- Support and participate in humanitarian initiatives at both local and global levels.

Administrative Duties:

- Collaborate with the mosque management on religious programming.

- Maintain a regular schedule of classes and public talks.

- Ensure that religious services comply with UK laws and safeguarding policies.

- Recording data of activities such as workshops held, new muslims etc.

Qualifications & Skills



- Formal Islamic education from a recognised institute (e.g., Al-Azhar, Islamic University of Madinnah, etc.).

- hafiz of the Quran

- Fluent in Arabic and English; other community languages (e.g., Urdu, Somali, Bengali) are a plus.

- Strong understanding of Islamic jurisprudence and contemporary issues.

- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counselling skills.

- Familiarity with the UK social and legal context affecting Muslims.

- DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance required.

- Ability to use technology and social media for dawah.

Desirable:

- Experience working as an Imam in the UK or Western context.

- Training in safeguarding, youth work, or counselling.
