We are looking for a motivated and compassionate Immunisation Assistant to join the Somerset School Aged Immunisation Team (SAINT). In this role, you will play an important part in supporting the delivery of routine childhood vaccinations within schools and community settings.
You will meet children at each session, ensure every eligible child is seen by an immuniser, record outcomes, and provide reassurance and support to children and young people both before and after their vaccinations. Working as part of a friendly, multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the smooth running of immunisation clinics and help ensure the highest standards of care and safeguarding.
You must hold a full valid manual driving licence and appropriate business insurance, as travel across the county is essential to the role.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

Support the School Aged Immunisation Team during vaccination sessions in schools and community venues.
Welcome and meet children on arrival, ensuring they are seen by an immuniser and their vaccination outcomes are accurately recorded.
Provide care and reassurance to children and young people pre- and post-vaccination, including supporting the post-vaccination recovery area.
Liaise with school staff and immunisation practitioners to maintain smooth clinic flow.
Assist with maintaining class lists, consent forms, and other records, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
Support administrative tasks, including collating and scanning session paperwork.
Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and infection control standards in all settings

As an Immunisation Assistant, you will be part of a countywide service delivering vaccinations to school-aged children in line with the national programme, including Influenza, HPV, MMR, Meningococcal ACWY, and the Diphtheria/Tetanus/Polio booster.
You will:
Work alongside immunisation nurses, practitioners, and admin colleagues to provide outstanding care to children and families.
Help cross-check class lists against consent lists, ensuring all eligible children are seen and recorded.
Assist with difficult conversations in a sensitive and professional manner, escalating issues where necessary.
Support colleagues in preparing clinics, maintaining equipment and paperwork, and ensuring infection control measures are followed.
Be flexible in working across Somerset to meet service needs, with some requirement for evening, weekend, and school holiday clinics.
