Job Description

The post holder will be a Registered Nurse and will work within the health Protection and Immunisation team within Hywel Dda University Health Board. You will support the Immunisation Co-ordinator and the Lead nurse Health Protection and Immunisation in the development of a high-quality immunisation service across all three localities through the implementation of a Local Delivery Plan to achieve the Welsh Government's Key performance indicators for immunisations and vaccinations.



A broad and advanced level of clinical skills and knowledge of Immunisations is required for this post; to ensure a high level of clinical working, to answer clinical queries from within the Health protection and immunisation team and wider teams. To also provide training to staff and support in relation to immunisation programmes. Act in accordance to legal and statutory guidance and comply with all Health Board policies/procedures, including safeguarding. Process and transmit immunisation data using paper and computerised systems. Participate in the University Health Board's performance review/staff appraisal scheme. Undertake statutory and mandatory training.



Support the Immunisation Co-ordinator to deliver the Immunisation and Vaccination Agenda across the Health Board. Manage workload as an autonomous practitioner. Be responsible for planning and organising own day to day workload, ensuring all tasks are carried out within appropriate timescales, prioritising tasks being undertaken as priorities change, including any outbreak situation. Liaise with General Practitioners, managers, clinicians and administrative staff, communicating confidential patient information, immunisation reports and uptake data.



Co-ordinate and deliver training to Health Board immunisers, provide clinical advice and undertake audits as identified by the Immunisation Co-ordinator. The post holder will have a broad understanding of the schedule of both adult and childhood immunisation programmes.



Provide specialist advice relating to immunisation and vaccination programmes to other health professionals, colleagues and the general public. Represent the Immunisation Co-ordinator at Health Board immunisation meetings or Public Health Wales meetings as necessary.

Be a source of expertise for professionals, the public and other stakeholders on all matters relating to immunisation and vaccinations, including participating in the developing of standards and commenting on proposals for changing protocols and policy.



Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.



We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.



We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Five community hospitals:

Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire

Two integrated care centres:

Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings

47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97

community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers

Numerous mental health and learning disabilities service
