The Business Education Partnership (UK) Ltd, known as BEP Group is a registered charity, established in 1992.
The charity provides a work experience service and alternative education at our registered independent school for pupils in Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Redbridge, Waltham Forest, Essex, Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock.
Currently we employ around 50 part- and full-time staff, across three sites:
Romford (Main admin office and Romford school site)
Basildon (School site) and
Chelmsford (Work Experience team).
The role will mainly be at our Romford site, with one-two days/p/w at our Basildon site.
Job description
Student behaviour
Supervise the student 'Common Room', outdoor space and corridors throughout school, ensuring: The behaviour policy is applied as required and that children out of class are managed appropriately. Children's behaviour is managed appropriately at key points throughout the day including screening, handing in/collecting phones, break and lunchtimes and they return to lesson promptly at the end of breaks.
Respond to requests for assistance from teachers - this involves quickly getting to the classroom or other area where assistance is required (may include intervening and breaking up a fight between students).
'Positive handling' and physical restraint of teenagers once training has been received.
Liaise with Head of School and/or senior colleagues regarding student discipline specifically before sanctions are issued.Support with patrolling to the front of school or attendance at local business premises to help assist with student behaviour.
Assist Head of School with conducting re-focus, reintegration or peer-to-peer mediation meetings with students and parents where necessary.
School Site
Working with Heads of School to ensure the student communal area is clean and tidy and the building is safe for all users and secured at the end of each day ensure report any health and safety/maintenance issues to management
Ensure that class registers are distributed and all tutors are supplied with their copies.
Ensure security checks, including screening of all students, are completed as required.
Collect and ensure safe storage of mobile phones from students at the beginning of the morning and afternoon sessions.
Ensure radio calls from staff are acknowledged and actioned as appropriate.
Ensure staff and students have a positive impact in the local area/community and address any concerns from local people (complaints must be recorded and dealt with centrally)
Team leadership
As Team Leader you will agree tasks with Heads of School and supervise the work of Behaviour Support Inclusion Mentors.
Deputise for Head of School at daily morning meeting to ensure all school staff are briefed/de-briefed regarding students and with phone calls to parents at the end of the school day to discuss sanctions, attendance and/or rewards.
Safeguarding and attendance
Organise and, with colleagues, complete home visits to students, ensuring student welfare.
Working with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and the Deputy DSLs, to ensure children are safeguarded which may include attending meetings, informing appropriate individuals and complete paperwork and update database as necessary, ensuring confidentiality (may involve some unsocial hours).
Be aware of and follow child protection guidance protocols in all aspects of the role.
Liaise with the SENDCo regarding any special considerations with regards to SEN or LAC students.
Be aware of health care plans for students with specific medical requirements and plan for any resulting actions to be taken.
As instructed by the Head of School: maintain contact with and update, where applicable, partner organisations and agencies (e.g. EWOs, Youth Offending Teams etc); support attendance team with following-up poor attendance and timekeeping with parents and students to keep students motivated and focused and hold meetings where required.
Record keeping and school liaison
Ensure that all interventions with children (including their learning goals, achievements, mentoring sessions, incidents, progression routes etc) are recorded on our central MI system and communicated to a specific named schools and professionals.
Ensure that student attendance is recorded accurately and timely on our in-house database system, at morning and afternoon registration and throughout the day is students arrive or leave site.
