WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING PMUK are looking for an Incoming Quality Control (IQC) Apprentice to join the HAD Incoming Quality Control (IQC) and Calibration Team, who will be responsible for learning to check, test and measure components and assemblies according to specifications / drawings.

The role involves retrieving, learning to analyse, interpret, validate, and record measurement results and data in line with specifications.

The successful candidate will learn and assist in the calibration of a wide range of measurements and test equipment, whilst helping to coordinate the delivery of items to and from calibration organisation in line with requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • First Article Inspection - Learn to follow set schedules, carry out measurement of components and assemblies through learning to use a wide variety of measurement tools. Manage workload to achieve production schedules and ensure completion within time frame. Maintain sample submission records. Help coordinate article concessions with buyers, learn to generate First Article Inspection (FAI) Reports and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) like documentation. Learn to make assessments of any issues encountered during part measurement and articulate issues into technical summary reports and coordinate actions with Engineer.
  • Incoming inspection - Checking against relevant drawings, component specifications or inspection criteria. Follow inspection plans to complete incoming inspection of components and assemblies.
  • Calibration of Equipment - Learn about calibration and uncertainty of equipment. Help manage calibration of measurement and assessment equipment inclusive of general-purpose items. Set up and maintain equipment to the required standard (ensuring equipment is calibrated where required). Co-ordinate with other department internal and external calibration requirements and detail and document calibration process and prepare reports, as required.
  • Internal Calibration - Learn to perform basic calibration checks and approve products and accessories that meet tolerances and product specifications. Help maintain databases and provide accurate calibration records, ensuring reports and data are stored correctly.
  • Controlling non-conforming product - Evaluating rejects and process accordingly. Use available information and tools including measurement tools / techniques to evaluate rejects against specifications and search and maintain records using Oracle, managing outstanding items.
  • Production Support - Act as the first responder. Co-ordinating between affected parties when quality issues occur to initially investigate issues, measuring parts where problems occur and feedback to other members. Support other areas with periodic inspection of sub-assemblies.
  • Meetings - Provide information for weekly team meetings, providing updates on any new or ongoing issues, including appropriate responses and actions being taken. Provide necessary information for development and quality meetings attending and contributing where required.
  • Collation of raw data for various component investigations - Provide Information for weekly / monthly review meetings. Investigating quality problems and supporting action plans and driving continuous improvement through the manufacturing process.
  • 5S - Support the activities of IQC team in maintaining 5S within the department.
  • Process Improvements - Consider new technology and methodologies to improve and implement quality systems / processes to aid efficiency and accuracy. Undertake internal process audits as requested by QMS committee and follow up on results.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Education:
  • BTech, OND/C, NVQ Level 2 or equivalent relevant discipline & or 1+ years relevant experience in similar role.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • MS Office Applications use (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) - Desirable.
  • Knowledge of Oracle - Desirable.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Basic fault-finding skills.
  • Product and component evaluation skills.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Strict adherence to H&S requirements.
  • Planning and organisation skills - ability to handle multiple issues at once.
  • Must be an effective team player with a flexible attitude and good communication skills.
Additional Specifications:
  • Must be able to adapt easily to a rapidly changing business environment.
  • This role will involve some physical manual handling.
