Job Description

Role Summary: We are looking for a skilled and compassionate Occupational Therapist with experience in neurodevelopmental conditions to support our NHS-commissioned Autism and ADHD assessment service for individuals aged 16 and over. This independent role involves contributing to multidisciplinary assessments and offering functional, sensory, and occupational insight into diagnostic formulations and post-diagnostic recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct functional and sensory assessments to support the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Contribute to multidisciplinary diagnostic discussions, providing specialist input on daily functioning, sensory processing, and occupational performance.

Offer tailored post-diagnostic advice and recommendations to support clients' independence, well-being, and quality of life.

Liaise with clients, families, and other professionals to gather relevant occupational history and contextual information.

Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical records in line with HCPC and NHS standards.

Work collaboratively within a remote or hybrid team, adhering to clinical governance frameworks and NICE guidance.

Essential Criteria:

HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist.

Demonstrable experience working with neurodiverse individuals, particularly those with ASD and/or ADHD.

Knowledge of sensory integration, functional assessment tools, and person-centred planning.

Excellent communication and report-writing skills.

Ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary framework.

Training in sensory profiling tools (e.g., Sensory Integration, A/ASP, or equivalent).

Experience working within or alongside NHS diagnostic pathways for neurodevelopmental conditions.

Qualifications and Experience

A BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy or MSc in Occupational Therapy from a UK university or an equivalent overseas qualification that meets UK standards.

Clinical experience working with individuals diagnosed with or suspected to have:

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Experience should include assessment of functional, sensory, and occupational impacts.

Functional and Sensory Assessment Skills

Skilled in evaluating:

Daily living skills and executive functioning

Sensory processing and regulation

Environmental adaptations

Able to contribute meaningful input to multidisciplinary diagnostic formulations based on functional observations.

Understanding of Relevant Clinical Guidance

Familiarity with:

NICE Guidelines for ASD and ADHD

RCOT guidance on neurodiversity and occupational therapy practice

Relevant legislation such as the Care Act 2014, Equality Act 2010, and Mental Capacity Act 2005

Strong Communication and Report-Writing Skills

Able to produce professional, well-structured reports to inform diagnosis and post-diagnostic care planning.

Remuneration: Competitive rates per assessment/report. Flexible hours based on caseload and availability.
