We are looking for a highly motivated Independent Travel Training Practitioner to join our dedicated and expanding team. You will play a key role in delivering and promoting our established Independent Travel Training (ITT) programme, supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across Rotherham.

Key responsibilities



Deliver individualised travel training programmes tailored to each learner's needs, ensuring they gain the confidence and skills to travel independently. Promote sustainable travel solutions by advertising and raising awareness of the ITT programme across schools, colleges, and the wider community. Collaborate with educational establishments to deliver classroom-based activities focused on road safety, confidence building, and independent travel skills. Assess suitable candidates for the programme and liaise with parents/carers and schools to agree personalised plans. Support with training and recruitment of ITT buddies who assist learners during training. Monitor and adapt programmes to meet pupil needs and contribute to future growth and expansion of the service. Attend regional meetings to share best practice and benchmark ITT delivery standards. Provide regular and accurate progress reports and financial updates to senior leaders, ensuring transparency and effective resource management. Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, and Council policies.

The successful candidate will have:



Experience working with children and young people with SEND. Strong safeguarding knowledge and risk assessment skills. Excellent communication and organisational skills. Experience in education/training and supervising staff or volunteers.

The successful applicant will be required to follow various Council procedures including Health and Safety, Child Protection and an Enhanced DBS will be required before employment can be commenced.

In addition, there is a requirement for the successful applicant to attend a 2 day Level 2 Accreditation Course - Teaching Independent Travel Training Skills (RQF) which will be funded by the Local Authority.
