Step into a pivotal role at the heart of the AA Group's Finance function, where you'll take ownership of the accurate and timely submission of Indirect Tax returns, including VAT and IPT. Your expertise will shape how the business navigates complex tax landscapes, ensuring compliance while influencing strategic decisions.



As a trusted technical specialist, you'll collaborate across Finance and the wider business to understand our diverse product offerings and ensure they're reported correctly for VAT purposes. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain a comprehensive overview of all AA Group businesses, making it ideal for someone who thrives on variety and cross-functional engagement.



You'll also play a key leadership role mentoring the Tax Assistant, supporting their technical development, and deputising for the Head of Tax and Payroll when needed. It's a chance to grow your impact, develop others, and contribute to the Group's financial integrity.

What will I be doing?



Leading on VAT matters

across the AA Group, acting as the primary contact and ensuring full compliance with legislation

Preparing quarterly VAT returns

under PESM, including reverse charge calculations, annual adjustments, and Capital Goods Scheme compliance

Providing technical VAT advice

on new products, services, and contracts to ensure correct tax treatment and mitigate risk

Supporting financial operations

by working with Financial Systems and Finance Business Partners on variable recovery rates and VAT reconciliations

Handling HMRC enquiries

professionally and monitor legislative changes, working with the Head of Tax & Payroll to maintain compliance

Deputising for the Head of Tax & Payroll

and collaborating with the wider Tax team on IPT, CT, PSA, and ERS matters

What do I need?




Technical Capability & Experience


Proven experience preparing Group VAT returns using SAP/BW, with strong skills in transactional data analysis, reverse charge VAT, Capital Goods Scheme, and balance sheet reconciliations. Advantageous to have knowledge of Partial Exemption and Insurance Premium Tax (IPT).

Education & Qualifications


Ideally CTA qualified or part qualified ACCA, ACA, OR CIMA qualified ATT qualified if not chartered
