Do you want to be at the heart of our work to address climate change through regulation and use of market mechanism working with several government departments?

Or do you want to lead the expansion of the UK Air Quality Monitoring Network to cover more pollutants?

Do you enjoy leading teams, working with colleagues across different disciplines, teams and organisations, and making sure that we have the right plans and resources in place to deliver challenging programmes of work? If so, we have two exciting roles for you.

Industrial Decarbonisation and Market Mechanisms Manager (permanent) - you will jointly manage our teams that oversee development, implementation and operation of climate related regulatory regimes such as the UK Emissions Trading Scheme, and will work with regulatory operations teams, as well as working closely with three government departments on these regimes.

Air Quality Monitoring Network Manager (temporary for 18 months) - you will be responsible for managing relations with Defra and national operations and putting this work on a more sustainable funding footing for the future. You will oversee delivery of a significant capital and revenue programme makes a significant difference to the quality of the air that we breathe.

We are mostly dispersed teams and work with a wide range of technical and project teams across the country. Some travel and overnight stays may be required.

The team

Both roles are in the Climate Change management group of the Sustainable Business & Development (SBD) Directorate.

We lead on the climate emergency, air quality, green growth and a sustainable future. To do this we develop environmental strategy and own the relationship with government.

The Air Quality Monitoring Network Manager post is in the Public Health and Air Quality team.

The Industrial Decarbonisation and Market Mechanisms Manager is in the Industrial Decarbonisation team.

Experience/skills required

You will have direct experience, or relevant transferable experience, of informing government policy and/or designing, implementing and translating it into cost-effective operational activity.

Experience air quality monitoring policy and delivery would be helpful but is not essential.

You will have a track record of successfully influencing individuals and organisations at senior levels within large organisations.

You must be able to engage and communicate effectively with a range of customers to ascertain customers\' needs and perceptions and balance this with wider stakeholder demands.

You will be able to plan and direct the work of the teams and others with whom you work, providing technical and business management leadership.

You should have a track record of working with individuals and teams that undertake a variety of work from technical specialists to business management, and programme management.

You will be experienced in working effectively within geographically dispersed teams and across multiple functions.
