The Royal Society is the national academy of science in the UK and plays a key role in promoting science and the value of science around the world. The Society is recruiting a Marketing Officer to support the successful promotion of its industry-focussed programme of activities and events. This position would be line-managed by one of the Industry Programme Managers and would sit within their sub-team, but would be matrix-managed by the other Industry Programme Manager and the Head of Industry Engagement.
This is a mid-level role that requires experience and a proactive approach to balancing the requirements of multiple projects. We are seeking a strong team player with excellent planning and administration skills, an ability to write concisely and effectively and the capacity to communicate clearly and enthusiastically both internally across the Royal Society and with a broad range of external stakeholders. The successful candidate will come with 3-4 year's marketing management experience, particularly with reference to marketing events and working with companies. They will be self-starters, with excellent interpersonal skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage a busy and varied workload.

Location: Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5AG plus the option for some hybrid remote working

  • Work with colleagues across the whole portfolio of activities, to design and deliver marketing strategies that will achieve Industry Programme objectives. This will include, but not be limited to Creating Connections, the Transforming our Futures programme, Science and the Law, careers events etc.
  • Driving the formation of regional networks
  • Taking a lead role in spreading best practice across the Industry team, staying up to date with new and innovative tools and developments and acting as expert advisor to colleagues
  • Social marketing using third party platforms and tools
  • Targeted e-mail marketing with appropriate automation and dynamic content
  • Content production and promotion, including the Industry Engagement newsletter
  • Provision of marketing services to attract new connections or to deepen engagement with existing members of the Industry team's network. For example, through the creation and promotion of valuable, targeted content or by driving attendance at events through direct contact with companies
  • Budget time and expenditure effectively, ensuring that project owners are aware of any changes to forecast or anticipated outcomes well in advance of project closure.
  • Maintain the Royal Society reputation for the high quality of experience and impact our events deliver to audiences and partners.
  • Developing key internal relationships across the Society, ensuring that industry team activity is co-ordinated across the Society and that the Science and Industry programme is presented in a cohesive and effective manner. In particular, this role will be required to work closely with the Digital marketing & engagement, Media relations and Design teams.
  • Working effectively with the Science, Industry and Translation Committee members and other senior Royal Society figures.
  • Working effectively with external organisations in relation to science and industry work.
  • Contributing to other activities as required.

The Marketing Lead must be prepared to embrace changing circumstances and work collaboratively with others across the team to deliver on behalf of the Royal Society and our partners.
