The University of Northampton Library is seeking two Information Assistants. The first post will be based in our Library Operations team and will report to the Library Operations Manager. This post will be involved in supporting borrowing, book circulation, stock management, and in administering user accounts, reservations and membership services. The second post will work in our Reading List team and will report to the Resource Integration Specialist. This post involves acquisition and delivery of print and digital resources, including books and e-books for reading lists and supporting the Accessible Formats Service. Both posts will involve maintaining metadata and records via our library management system and resource discovery software. On occasion, both posts will be required to work on Information Assistant duties outside their base area.
We are an accredited Living Wage Foundation Employer and currently pay the real living wage, which is currently 24,309 per annum. In recognition of this, the starting salary of this post has been increased to pay this higher amount which currently supersedes the actual Grade 4 starting salary before living wage.
The posts include 25 days holiday per annum plus 5 days after five years continuous service, additional closed days, bank holidays and a local government pension.
The posts are based at the Waterside Campus in Northampton, with occasional opportunities for remote working. There may also be some flexibility around start and finish times each day, subject to discussion.
About you
You will be organised, self-motivated and able to work unsupervised. You will also be a team player with a flexible, positive approach, excellent communication skills and the ability to problem solve. The post requires you to have high levels of accuracy and attention to detail and to be able to adapt to changes in technology and workflow.
You will be educated to GCSE level, or higher, and will be a confident user of IT and internet-based applications. You will also have an interest in library and information processes and systems.
Qualification
Essential;
5 GCSEs at grade C or above, or NVQ Level 2, or equivalent qualification or relevant experience.
Desirable;
2 or more A-Levels or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.

Library, Learning and Student Services (LLSS) consists of the University Library & Archives, Learning Technology, Learning and Teaching Enhancement, and Student Services. The University Library provides adaptable and IT rich learning environments, with access to print and online resources, alongside expert support in finding information. Learning and Teaching Enhancement provides flexible opportunities for students to develop a broad range of academic skills, while Learning Technology manage NILE, the University's virtual learning environment, and support the use of technology in learning and teaching. Student Services include disability support, counselling and mental health, student advice and welfare, international student support, the Student Information Desk and financial guidance.
