About the role




The Information Rights Officer will work to support Affinity Water's compliance with data protection and environmental information law.


This role primarily involves managing and responding to information rights requests, specifically Subject Access Requests (SARs), requests for information under the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR), and third-party requests for information.


In addition, the Information Rights Officer will work with the Data Protection Team to promote data protection awareness and best practices across the business and provide project support on a wide range of data protection matters including records of processing activities and investigations.


What you'll be doing



Log, track, and respond to Third Party requests, Environmental Information Regulations (EIR), and Subject Access Requests (SARs) within statutory deadlines. This will include acting as a point of contact for requestors, liaising with internal teams to gather information, prepare and where required, redact responses, and ensure requests are handled in compliance with the relevant legislation. Providing advice on whether information should be disclosed or refused in compliance with the relevant legislation. With the knowledge and understanding of when to defer to the Deputy DPO or DPO for clarification, further understanding, internal and external consultation and guidance in relation to other legislation which may apply to the disclosure. Supporting with internal reviews of information rights requests and complaints handling. Building relationships with our internal teams to help drive and embed data protection compliance in our day-to-day operations. Supporting with data mapping to ensure our Records of Processing Activities remains up to date. Supporting with other duties such as project work, training development, breach investigation and data retention reviews.

What you need to success



Professional Data Protection Qualification such as CIPPE or BCS Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection, or equivalent Demonstrable experience of working in a similar role Excellent knowledge and application of the Environmental Information Regulations, UK GDPR and Data Protection Act particularly with regards to information rights. Strong M365 capability and experience of using redaction software Personal skills and competencies Confidently able to engage and influence key stakeholders from across the business Professional integrity and discretion
