MKM operates throughout the UK with 135+ branches and a central support function based in Hull.
The IT Team provide systems and support to the business, with a large PC / Microsoft estate and associated software, applications, servers, cloud systems, telecommunications, corporate network and ERP system.
Due to the continuing expansion of MKM, we're looking for a proactive and versatile IT professional to join our team to work across infrastructure and security.
Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager and working closely with the Security Lead, the role will involve both helping to develop and maintain existing infrastructure and being involved in all aspects of our security posture - monitoring, managing and working to improve, both in terms of technical defences and governance.
The Role
To work as an integral part of the infrastructure team to monitor, manage, deploy and maintain systems across a wide range of systems (see Technologies)
Help to develop, test and document existing and new systems and processes
Act as a point of help and assistance for members of the wider team, owning escalated issues to resolution
Monitor, analyse and investigate security alerts and concerns
Actively maintain an awareness of current cyber security threats and be able to develop and deploy risk-based solutions
Prepare and present regular security reports, auditing and training
Work to enhancing the current security posture, recommending and implementing security measures, processes and tools along with applying governance and guidance to other departments
Embed a 'security first' approach within the infrastructure team, wider IT teams and the business as a whole
Key Skills
Excellent oral and written communicator, able to talk to technical and non-technical colleagues alike
Strong analytical, problem solving and process analysis skills
Adaptable and flexible with a self-learning, self-driven attitude
Have a good understanding of IT principles, networking, servers and clouds environments and be able to demonstrate several years' experience working in a relevant support/infrastructure environment
Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of security principles, practise and governance (cyber defences, scanning, remediation, monitoring, user access control, governance etc)
Be able to self-manage projects and priorities in a busy environment
Strong team player, able to influence and assist colleagues across the business
Desirable
Experience within the builders' merchant sector or other similar scale trade
Hold or be working towards a qualification in cyber security
Knowledge of non-Microsoft systems, e.g. management of Apple Mac, mobile devices, Linux, Google Cloud
