About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Health, Safety, and Environmental Advisor to join our Infrastructure Maintenance Delivery team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive advice and support on all workforce health, safety, and environmental issues. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that our team adheres to the highest standards of safety and environmental management.
You will play a key role in promoting a positive cultural and behavioural change within the team. By fostering a proactive approach to health, safety, and environmental management, you will help create a workplace where safety is a top priority and environmental sustainability is embedded in our daily operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
Offering expert guidance on health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.
Conducting regular safety audits and inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
Developing and delivering training programmes to enhance the team's knowledge and awareness of health, safety, and environmental issues.
Collaborating with team members to implement effective safety and environmental initiatives.
Leading by example to inspire a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.

We are looking for a dedicated Safety and Operations Specialist to join our team. In this role, you'll engage effectively with frontline teams and have a strong working understanding of operational railway systems. You'll proactively challenge and address unsafe behaviours, while influencing and promoting a positive and safe workplace culture.

About the role (External)
Every day will be different, but you can expect to be involved in the following activities:
Provide comprehensive support, coaching, and guidance to the team on all workforce health, safety, and environmental issues.
Assist in the collation, monitoring, and analysis of workforce health, safety, and environmental data to identify trends, produce detailed reports, and recommend corrective actions.
Identify key health, safety, and environmental risks and propose effective control measures.
Support the implementation of both national and local programmes and initiatives aimed at improving workforce health, safety, and environmental management.
Facilitate the team's relationships with local safety forums/groups, Trade Union Safety Representatives, and external safety and environmental bodies.
Offer expert guidance to the Infrastructure Maintenance Delivery Manager and team in the investigation and reporting of accidents and incidents, including the Formal Investigation Process.
Coordinate and facilitate arrangements for safety and environmental audits.
Oversee and monitor safety tours and staff surveillance activities for the team.
Conduct periodic sample checks of safe system of work plans to ensure compliance with the Safe System of Work Planning Arrangements, and take action to address any identified issues.
Actively contribute to the development of the team's knowledge and practices in matters of workforce health, safety, and the environment.
In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to be/ to have:

Must be a member of or working towards being a member of the Institute of Occupational Health and safety (IOSH) at Technical (TechIOSH) level or above
Knowledge of safety and compliance management processes
Knowledge of relevant standards and procedures
Knowledge of environmental management system
Knowledge of operational railway environment
Analytical capability
Local Accident & Incident Investigation
Knowledge of coaching techniques
Good interpersonal, influencing, communication and organisation skills
We would also like but it isn't crucial to be/to have:

NEBOSH diploma
Institute of Environmental Management Award (IEMA)
Good basic IT skills, including proficiency in using common software applications and the ability to quickly learn new technologies.
Salary:
Band 4B 35,582 - 40,830 depending on experience
