Photuris Ltd have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join the team as a field-based Installation/Commissioning Engineer.

Purpose of the role:

As a Installation/Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for installing and repairing Fire and Security systems in commercial buildings such as offices, retail spaces, warehouses, and industrial facilities. Key Responsibilities:



Install, inspect, and maintain fire detection, suppression, security systems (including CCTV, access control, and intruder alarms). Diagnose and repair faults in fire and security systems promptly to minimize downtime. Ensure all installations comply with current fire safety regulations, security standards, and BS 5839 (for fire systems), BS 8243 (for intruder alarm systems), and any relevant industry guidelines. Work from technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to complete installation and commissioning tasks. Perform thorough testing and certification of fire and security systems, ensuring compliance with required standards and codes. Collaborate with project teams, architects, and other trades to ensure timely and smooth project delivery. Provide guidance and supervision to apprentices and junior engineers as needed. Complete all relevant job documentation and reports accurately and within deadlines. Document test results and provide detailed reports to clients or building owners. Recommend system upgrades or modifications to enhance performance, reliability, and compliance. Commit to continuous professional development, attending training workshops and certification courses to keep up with evolving technologies and regulations. Compile and complete maintenance reports, site survey reports, van stock reports, and van condition reports. Assist other departments as required to ensure project completion. Notify the office immediately of any major system failures or site issues. Ensure the work area is cleared of all debris and rubbish after completing installations. Respond promptly and accurately to client queries, escalating to the Projects Coordinator or Management Team where necessary. Ensure all required paperwork is obtained, processed, and submitted according to company ISO procedures. Maintain professionalism and provide excellent customer service to ensure a positive client experience. Build and sustain strong client relationships to uphold the reputation of Photuris Ltd.

Required Skills:



Qualified Fire and Security Engineer: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Fire and Security Systems Installation. Certifications: Relevant fire and security certifications (e.g., FIA, ECS Card, or equivalent) and a thorough understanding of the latest fire safety and security regulations. Experience in Fire and Security Installations: Proven track record in the installation and commissioning of fire detection, suppression, and security systems within commercial or industrial environments. Testing and Commissioning: Experience with testing and commissioning fire alarm, CCTV, access control, and intruder alarm systems. Full UK Driving Licence: Required for travel to various job sites. Problem-Solving Skills: Strong ability to diagnose and resolve issues in fire and security systems. Excellent Communication: Clear communication with clients and project teams. Attention to Detail: High standards of workmanship and accuracy in system installations and commissioning. 3-5 years of experience in fire and security systems installation and commissioning. Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics for fire and security systems. Ability to install and commission a range of fire and security systems, including fire alarms, access control, CCTV, and intruder alarms. Strong understanding of industry standards, regulations, and codes of practice for fire safety and security systems. Experience working with both wired and wireless systems, ensuring installations meet all safety and operational requirements. Ability to anticipate potential issues and take preventive or corrective measures to ensure system performance and safety. Proficiency in using commissioning tools, software, and equipment for fire and security systems. Analytical and critical thinking skills to address challenges efficiently and effectively. Knowledge of relevant building regulations, fire safety codes, and security standards, including fire risk assessments and site surveys.
Desirable Skills:

Knowledge on Fire systems (Kentec, Advanced and Morley systems - Ziton and Gent would be an advantage) FIA course 1, 2/3 and 6 Knowledge of Security systems (Texecom and Galaxy Grade 2 & 3 Intruder alarm systems) Knowledge of Access Control systems (Paxton and controlsoft/ HID access control systems) Knowledge of Analogue and IP CCTV Systems Knowledge of Baldwin Boxall and C-TEC DDA systems Complete servicing of systems, including witness testing and client demonstration and training being able to plan and communicate well within the team, suppliers and customers. Knowledge of carrying out fire and security maintenance. Carrying out logical and accurate fault finding and diagnostics. Be able to complete relevant documentation. A good understanding of installation/electrical procedures and principles related to the fire and security industry. Computer literate with understanding of Word, Excel, Outlook and general IT skills. Strong written, verbal and numerical skills - with both colleagues and customers. Positive can-do attitude towards career development. Exceptional organisational skills. Committed and willing to go the extra mile to get tasks completed on time. Well-presented, portraying a professional image of the business. Ability to work successfully as a team member and on own. Ability and desire to learn the legal and regulatory compliance for the Fire and Security Industries. PTS or Rail experience
