We're looking for an Installation Design Authority (CIDA) Infrastructure Engineer to help us make a difference to our planet.


As our CIDA Infrastructure Engineer, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

Best-in-class technology expertise:

As a Coordinating Installation Design Authority (CIDA) Infrastructure Engineer, the primary focus of this role is the coordination and planning of installation and decommissioning tasks for IT systems and infrastructure. You will provide technical advice and guidance to project managers, design engineers and installation engineers during IT and infrastructure projects to ensure that the Met Office maintains its operational effectiveness during installation or decommissioning activities for systems such as desktops, servers, audio-visual equipment, mainframe and HPC.

As a key member of a vibrant team of circa 20 high skilled Network engineers, you will foster knowledge share, collaboration and continuous improvement. At HQ, the CIDA team work closely with a range of specialists and engineers across property and facilities management teams to deliver safe, reliable and resilient infrastructure.

Travel Opportunities

: Whilst most of this work will be at the HQ campus and data centres (HQ and Exeter Science Park), the CIDA team also have responsibility at frontline sites (UK and overseas).

Your key Responsibilities

:

Scheduling work with onsite engineers and specialists, and prioritising resources to deliver the customer requirements at Exeter HQ and Met Office frontline sites. Using Patch Manager (a data centre infrastructure management (DCIM) tool) to maintain records for "as fitted" equipment and cabling with for our data centres and network equipment rooms (NERs). Undertake physical installation and decommissioning of ICT equipment at frontline sites and assisting HQ on-site engineers with this work as required. Survey buildings and rooms to create or update records of installed equipment and cabling or room layouts. Work closely with technology experts and direct network specialists within the Met Office to deliver and improve services. Coach and mentor colleagues.

As our Networks Infrastructure Engineer, your total reward package will be up to 49,806 annually, which includes:

33,794 base pay An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97% Recruitment Retention Allowance (RRA) you will be paid 2,200 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. Whilst in post, you will be paid this market driven allowance from April 2024 until March 2026 in your monthly pay Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave

Essential Criteria, skills and experience:



A wide knowledge of ICT and engineering infrastructure particularly in relation to communication systems with some knowledge of electrical systems. Hold a valid driving licence and be prepared to travel using all forms of transport. Available to work away from home at Met Office sites in the UK and overseas. Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience. Capable of successfully coordinate a range of both large- and small-scale projects and ability to deliver outcomes even with tight deadlines. Can demonstrate and promote safe systems of working, following recommended health and safety practices and procedures. Capable of performing installation and decommissioning of equipment using safe manual handling techniques which may involve working in restrictive spaces (for example, beneath desks).

Experience of working in an ITIL-based (or similar) support environment. Practical experience of equipment or cabling installation (copper and fibre) with awareness of applicable standards and best practices for ICT, cabling, and engineering (e.g., BS7671, JSP453 Defence IT Installation Standards, BS EN 50173/50174), and requirements for MOD classified communications. Experience of software tools for creating and editing drawings and diagrams (e.g., CAD such as AutoCAD or ZWCAD, Visio).
