Job Introduction

We're looking for an exceptional Instructional Designer to help us make a difference to our planet.


As our Instructional Designer, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.


Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week, but we would also consider applicants wishing to work a minimum of 30 hours per week and we will also try our best to consider those intending to work a job share. Our people are at the heart of what we do and we'll do our best to agree a working pattern that works for everyone.


Whilst this is a temporary position for 12 months, there is potential for it to develop into a permanent position.

Your world of expertise




You will play a key role in the design, development, and delivery of high-quality learning experiences. You will work closely with our Performance Consultants and business stakeholders to create engaging and effective learning materials that support the professional development of our customers in line with the People and Culture plan.

Your key duties:



Apply Instructional Design methodologies to develop scalable and effective learning solutions. Work with subject matter experts, stakeholders, and key internal teams to define training needs, learning objectives, and learner parameters. Create engaging, learner-centred instructional materials, including e-learning modules, instructor-led training, blended learning solutions, and job aids. Support SMEs to develop learning content through, for example, the creation of templates and written/video guidance. Evaluate and test learning materials to ensure effectiveness, making iterative improvements based on feedback.

As our Instructional Designer, your total reward package will be up to 47,606 annually, which includes:

33,794 base pay An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97% Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave

Essential Criteria



Hold a bachelor's degree in Instructional Design or Education or experience working as an Instructional Designer or similar (E.g. Digital Designer / E-learning Designer). Strategic Thinking and Learning Design (

Effectively navigates the challenges of designing for large cohorts and modular programmes, ensuring solutions are cohesive, engaging, and impactful. Versatile Content Development and SME Enablement: Designs and develops high-quality learning content for digital, blended, and face-to-face delivery. Supports subject matter experts in shaping and refining content to ensure alignment with learning objectives, audience needs, and accessibility standards.
