The post holder will work closely with the nursing and multi-disciplinary team in the provision of day-to-day patient care within the Operating Department under the supervision of the registered practitioners
The post holder will co-ordinate and participate in the day-to-day operational activities for storage and distribution of surgical supplies and equipment, ensuring availability of equipment and sterile sets to meet operational demands and patient care needs
The post holder will practice in accordance with Trusts policies, guidelines, procedures and standards, and work within the boundaries of the role and assessed competencies.
The post holder will have experience of Theatre and Surgical procedures and instrumentation required for various specialties.
Organise, schedule and co-ordinate the daily logistical management of the instruments/equipment requirements for each activity to ensure that all Theatres are adequately resourced to meet performance objectives and standards, including manually lifting instrument trays as required.
Liaise with consultants, peri-operative staff and other professionals to discuss policies and other matters relating to the sterilization, decontamination processing and distribution of surgical and medical supplies and equipment to ensure the effective delivery of the service.
To daily, delegate workload and make informed decisions regarding what equipment and supplies will be required to ensure the smooth and efficient running of theatres in advance.
Autonomously prioritise and plan workload to meet deadlines, often in a pressurized environment.
Co-ordinate the arrival and return of all loan equipment from companies and other hospitals.

Assist in the care of a group of patients under the supervision of the registered practitioner by ensuring that the required equipment for their surgical procedure is available

When electrical equipment is loaned, fill in the relevant forms to allow it to be PAT tested by EBME to ensure it is safe to use and there are no delays to lists.
Responsible for department stock take.
Liaise with outside companies to maintain stock levels and replace items, when necessary, of consignment stock including high-cost items.
Manage the theatre's current stock of sterile sets and instruments, ensuring they are in-date, undamaged as well as traced and returned to and from HSDU and available for procedures when required.
Management of stores, ordering receipting, date checking and stock rotation. Researching correct codes when codes/suppliers change.
Budgetary responsibilities:
although there is no direct access to the budget the role includes cost-effective ordering, dealing with invoicing queries, receipting goods and liaising with finance and purchasing where applicable.
Assisting the general manager in monitoring theatre utilization and where possible suggesting and implementing solutions.
Monitoring theatre lists, reviewing daily and communicating directly with surgeons to obtain the correct equipment and consumables required for successful surgery outcomes.
Record and report all delivery discrepancies (e.g. incorrect quantity or items received) to suppliers and escalate to the appropriate staff member.
Inform floor control of any problems with ordering or delivery of products within good time, to ensure alternative arrangements can be made to prevent any patient cancellations.
Work collaboratively with Materials management to identify alternatives.
Reduce waste by effective stock rotation.
To identify, troubleshoot and resolve routine problems encountered with equipment, and escalate to line manager and senior Theatre team appropriately where necessary.
Liaise with companies to obtain information and provide feedback on equipment.
Be an integral part of the theatre and HSDU team.
Support senior members of theatre staff in supervising Theatre Assistants and scrub staff within the department regarding implants and loan equipment.
To provide general support to Theatre Team Leaders with all surgical specialties and any other duties pertaining to implants and equipment stock management.
To liaise between suppliers and clinical teams to ensure the patient pathway is not affected by stock availability and loan kit requests.
To liaise with procurement to ensure that any discrepancies are investigated and resolved.
Provide the first point of direct contact for all service users, resolve routine enquiries and complaints professionally in accordance with local standards and procedures, and refer other queries to relevant colleagues where appropriate.
Attend relevant departmental meetings, and contribute to continuous service development
Liaise with internal and external agencies verbally, in writing and in person to co-ordinate patient-centered services, ensuring all Loan/Hire equipment are appropriately cross referenced with relevant documentation.
Collate information generated by others to maintain computerised patient information systems and ensure that records are accurately recorded and updated as required. Provide accurate data as requested by other members of the multidisciplinary team
As appropriate to the position, participate in the development of operational goals and objectives for the department, recommend, implement and administer methods and procedures to enhance surgical interventions
