PURPOSE OF THE ROLE



Howarth of London is the UK's leading manufacturer of high-quality Oboes and retailer of Woodwind Instruments. We are seeking a full-time Instrument Maker to work in our instrument body assembly section at our Manufacturing Division in Worthing. The successful candidate will have an enthusiasm for creating quality products using hand and machine tools. The role demands great precision, an eye for detail and working to fine tolerances. Training will be given.

JOB DESCRIPTION



Key Responsibilities



Preparing instrument bodies for the start of the assembly/build process, including preparation of the wood, nickel-silver and brass components to a high standard. Completing first stage assembly tasks (involving hand skills), soldering, pillaring and fine drilling all spring holes. Using precision hand tools and workshop machinery. Work within fine tolerances. Working with other team members to achieve production goals. Follow all safety guidelines and maintain a clean and organized work area.

CANDIDATE PROFILE



Essential

Knowledge and aptitude for working with tools. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately. Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Demonstrate a high level of quality control. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Enthusiasm, flexibility and willingness to learn a new craft. Diligent and conscientious approach to safety guidelines and good working practices. Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to build and maintain a positive working relationship with managers and colleagues. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a manufacturing environment.

Desirable



Previous experience in a handcraft skilled environment preferred but not essential (eg instrument repairs, watchmaking, jewellery or model making). An interest in classical music, and a passion to contribute to the advancement of woodwind manufacturing.
