About Us

The Application Services team at St Mary's University delivers a wide range of essential services through a comprehensive suite of software applications. These applications support our students, as well as academic and professional services staff, in achieving excellence across learning, research, and operations.

The teams remit includes the design, development and support (second and third-line applications support) of data integration solutions and application software across the institution.

This role is an opportunity for a proactive, technically skilled senior developer/architect to join our team to manage and lead the team through hands-on development and mentorship of other developers.

About the Role

We're seeking a hands-on, proactive and technically accomplished Senior Developer / Software Architect to lead and mentor our development team while shaping the architectural direction of our digital estate.

You will play a key role in driving architectural decisions and ensuring seamless implementation of solutions, especially as we transition towards cloud-native, event-driven technologies. Collaborating closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, you'll translate complex business needs into scalable, maintainable software solutions.

This position supports hybrid working--with a minimum of 3/4 days a week on-site and 1/2 days remote.

About You

You must be a collaborative leader with extensive experience in software design, development, and architecture and must be able to lead and mentor a team of developers.

You must be comfortable working in an agile environment (ideally using Jira for work management, and Confluence for documentation) and have experience of DevOps practices, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), and cloud-native development.

You must have good communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Familiarity with React and SQL Server DBA responsibilities would be a distinct advantage.
