College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine (CMVM) / Medicine and Veterinary Medicine College Office



Part time: 9 hours per week



Fixed term: from 2nd March 2026, for 35 weeks (8 months)



The Opportunity:



The College's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) team is recruiting a PhD student intern as part of the Employ.ed for PhDs programme, to manage a research project that will contribute to a key priority for the College: developing consistent and equitable academic promotion processes.


CMVM has recently completed a co-created Priority Setting exercise, led by the College Dean of Equity, Inclusion and Community, to finalise core objectives for its Community Strategy 2026-30, one of which is improving academic promotions processes. This 35-week internship will comprise scoping existing good practice in academic promotions, as well as gaps in provision, leading collaborative workshops with EDI leads and HR professionals in the College, and co-creating template materials to guide CMVM Schools to implement consistent, equitable practice in this area.


This internship is only open to current University of Edinburgh PhD students who will be based in the UK for the duration of the internship. Employ.ed for PhDs is run by the Careers Service in collaboration with university departments and Schools. It offers exclusive part-time internships at the University all year round.

Current doctoral student

from the University of Edinburgh based in the UK. Please also note that you are only eligible for this opportunity if you are a current University of Edinburgh PhD student, who will be based in the UK for the duration of the internship.


The University will employ full-time PGR students for no more than an average of 9 hours per week across the academic year (as per its policy ), and you must make sure any employment complies with any visa or funding conditions you may have.


Should you be successful, you will require written confirmation from your academic supervisor that you can undertake the internship. We recommend that students discuss the internship with their supervisor, as well as with their employer, before applying.
