Job description
Internal Audit contribute to the Environment Agency's vision to "Create a better place for people and wildlife" by reviewing the adequacy and effectiveness of corporate governance, risk management and internal control. No two audits are the same and cover novel and interesting topics that extend across the whole of the Environment Agency. One day you could be looking at flood defences and the next waste enforcement.
The role is required to manage and deliver a suite of Internal Audits from our annual plan. You will also provide excellent leadership and line management support to your team members to enable them to be the best they can be and to contribute to the achievement of the team's and Environment Agency's objectives, reflecting our principles and culture.
Given the team size you will still be required to deliver complex audits from start to finish. You will have responsibility for the management and delivery of a portfolio of audits, working on more than one assignment at once, for different clients, delivering to budget and quality expectations and complying with the Global Internal Audit Standards and internal processes.
You will be a trusted leader who always role models good behaviour, acts with integrity and works professionally. You will value your colleagues and communicate well with them and listen to their views.
You will also be required to support the Head of Internal Audit as required, including with the creation of the annual internal audit plan and the annual opinion.
The team
We are a team of eight headed by the Deputy Director of Internal Audit and reporting into the Director of Legal in Legal and Audit Services. This role will manage 2-3 members of internal audit staff, have liaison responsibilities with the wider business and portfolios of responsibility you are expected to deliver on.
Experience/skills required A qualified professional qualification with the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors, CCAB or equivalent.
Excellent leadership skills that role model good behaviour and inspires and encourages greatness in others.
Strong management skills that can support, direct and develop staff in their day to day activities.
A strong understanding and experience of risk and risk based internal auditing.
Ability to manage your own time and staff resource effectively and efficiently; proactively identify, expect, and take ownership of issues that could impact on the delivery of your and the wider teams' objectives and provide solutions and options ahead of deadlines.
Diverse thought to find practical and realistic solutions that add value to the client.
Confident communication and negotiation skills dealing with business colleagues at all grades.

Travel to your base office and other Environment Agency locations will be required in this role.

Role specific professional membership requirements
A professional qualification with the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors, CCAB or equivalent.
