Internal Controls Analyst



Knutsford - Hybrid




Permanent, Full time



The Role:





We are seeking an experienced and motivated Internal Controls Analyst to join our Risk and Internal Controls team based in Knutsford, UK. Reporting to the Head of Risk and Internal Controls, you will play a key role in strengthening and maintaining the James Fisher Group's internal control environment and risk framework.



With recent updates to the UK Corporate Governance Code, this role focuses on ensuring controls are well-documented, effectively designed, and operating as intended. You'll work closely with stakeholders across the Group to assess, test, and improve controls, contributing to a culture of integrity, resilience, and continuous improvement.


Risk & Control Matrix (RCM) Construction




Identify risks across business processes, reporting, IT systems, and operations Document mitigating controls and supplementary information Highlight control gaps and propose remedial actions

GRC System Management




Maintain and update the Group's GRC system (CoreStream) Support user training and generate reports/dashboards for analysis

Control Testing & Monitoring




Conduct control testing in line with internal methodology Track remediation actions and maintain control documentation

Stakeholder Collaboration




Partner with control owners to enhance control design and effectiveness Provide guidance and training on best practices Assist in preparing reports for senior management and governance committees

Process Improvement




Contribute to automation and streamlining of control processes Support system enhancement and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications and Experience:




Sector experience in James Fisher's core markets: Energy, Defence and Maritime is preferred, but not compulsory. Ideally a candidate should have 3+ years of direct experience within an internal controls function or providing 3rd party internal controls advisory services.

Knowledge



Preference for Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA) or local equivalent. Part-qualified accountants considered. Education: Degree, or equivalent (no specific discipline necessary).

Skills - Technical:




Strong knowledge of SOX, COSO and requirements in relation to Provision 29 of the UK Corporate Governance Code. Familiarity with SOC/ISAE reports. Familiarity with a range of ERP systems and functionality. At least a foundation-level understanding of ITGCs. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Experience with GRC systems is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided. Awareness of more complex accounting conventions (e.g. Revenue Recognition, Share Based Payments, Financial Instruments, etc.). General awareness of the inherent risks related to industries and markets that the Group operate in.
