Job Description

This is a unique post for a Speech and Language Therapy leader with advanced clinical skills to meet the communication needs of a forensic population.



Forensic mental health services at MPFT have secured funding for a 12-month project to explore the potential impact speech and language therapy input can have on the length of stay of our service users.



This post is the first of 4 new speech and language therapy role to be advertised and recruited as part of this innovative project, and will be key to leading the implementation plan.



If invited to interview you will be required to prepare a 10 minute presentation on your vision for a forensic service that supports the speech language and communication needs for the client population, what would the impact be and how would you evidence it?



You will be practicing autonomously as an advanced SLT within speciality area of forensic mental health to provide patient -centred clinical care which will encompass the skills of advanced clinical assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment within their professional scope of practice.



You will demonstrate safe, competent clinical decision - making and expert care, demonstrating advanced clinical critical thinking to meet the needs of service users.



You will work collaboratively with wider speech and language teams and stake holders to maintain the delivery of highest quality, integrated speech and language therapy, supporting the delivery of policy and procedure to sustain the delivery of quality, evidenced based care.



You will have passion, enthusiasm and specialist knowledge of speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and advanced clinical practice to meet all of the four pillars of advanced practice, to lead on service development and delivery.

Clinical care:

To work across various areas within speech and language therapy services and wider service delivery locations to provide highest standard, evidenced based integrated care.



Practise within the code of professional conduct and within their scope of practice, being responsible and accountable for their decisions, actions and omissions at this level of practice.



To undertake self-directed and independent assessment, diagnosis, plan, implement and evaluate treatment and care for patients presenting with a wide range of highly complex speech and language therapy needs.



Diagnose independently as a advanced speech and language therapist for a wide range of conditions following expert assessment of patient need and in line with current clinical guidance.



Demonstrate a critical understanding of their broadened level of responsibility and autonomy and the limits of own competence and professional scope of practice, including when working with complexity, risk, uncertainty and incomplete information.
