Job Summary

We are delighted to offer a 9-month paid internship for a graduate researcher to design and lead an in-depth research piece on Homelessness and black and minoritised ethnic communities.

Given the nature of this project we are particularly interested in receiving applications from suitable applicants from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds.

Detailed Description

The internship is fully funded by the under the Homelessness and Black and Minoritised Ethnic Communities in the UK: A knowledge and capacity building programme.

This major knowledge and capacity building programme will propel a fundamental step change in the UK evidence base on homelessness amongst people from Black and minoritised ethnic communities. Overseen by a research advisory group with input from a range of organisations such as the Runnymede Trust, Crisis, Shelter and JRF the programme will offer a comprehensive, authoritative account of the overall statistical picture alongside rich qualitative evidence offering a \'deep dive\' into key groups, issues, and experience of concerns.

Key duties and responsibilities

The post holder is required to:

  • This internship provides a unique opportunity for an early career researcher to join an award-winning social research institute, working on an innovative partnership project which aims to bring about positive change by shining a light on the experiences of black and minoritised ethnic communities facing homelessness and bringing forward solutions to tackle racial discrimination and inequality in housing and homelessness.
  • The intern will develop and implement their own individual research project relevant to the aims of the programme. As part of the application process, candidates are asked to provide a short research proposal.
  • They can work remotely anywhere across the UK but may be required to travel for research fieldwork and meetings.
Essential Criteria

Applicants must have:
  • Excellent undergraduate degree (1st or 2:1) in a social science, arts or related discipline.
  • A UK passport or working visa
  • Applicants should be competent social researchers with a background in a social science or arts and humanities discipline
  • Good understanding of race and equalities issues in the UK context
  • Self-motivated with strong research skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to identify and analyse difficult problems
  • Strong communication skills - written and oral.
