The Investment Graduate Programme:

The Investment Graduate Programme within our Investment Directorate is a two-year programme and offers an excellent grounding in the fundamental principles of Investment Management within one of the UK's largest wealth management organisations. To build a broad understanding of our investment proposition, investment principles and the regulatory and risk framework in which we operate, you will rotate across three core teams; Investment Management, Product and Investment Risk before specialising in one of these areas at the end of the programme. During each rotation you'll work closely with experienced teams, gaining exposure to real projects and responsibilities that build your confidence and capability in a commercial environment.


You will study for and obtain the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and then progress to completing both CFA I and CFA II during the two-years to support your development.


This will give you a well-rounded combination of practical experience, continuous learning and advancement of your technical knowledge.


All graduate positions are offered on a permanent contract. Upon successful completion of the programme, individuals continue in their roles within the Investment Directorate, equipped with the experience and insight gained throughout the Graduate Programme.

Key responsibilities:




During the programme you will rotate across three core teams whilst studying for and passing your IMC, CFA I and II examinations. Your responsibilities during these rotations will be:

Investment Management



Collaborating with colleagues across the different teams, including Investment Research Economic Research, Portfolios and the CIO Office which comprises the investment specialists, product specialists and Investment Helpdesk. Monitoring developments in financial markets, macro data and the wider investment industry. Conducting data analysis using Power BI, Excel, Bloomberg, Financial Express, etc to deliver insights to the rest of the team. Liaising with fund managers and attend quarterly meetings to understand the rationale for their investment decisions. Summarising investment discussions, both internal and with external parties (fund managers, independent research providers, etc). Talking to our financial advisers about our investment approach, asset allocation views, manager research decisions and associated topics. Compiling PowerPoint presentations for conferences and attending conferences.

Investment Product



Assist with the design and development of new investment products, and changes to the existing range, including product positioning, defining target market, value propositions, and competitive analysis. Support the review and analysis of existing investment products, ensuring they remain competitive, relevant and aligned with target market needs, and recommend modifications and enhancements as appropriate. Assist in the preparation of product documentation, including business cases, prospectuses, fact sheets, and marketing collateral as required. Support agenda setting and minute taking for the Product Governance Committee and other fora. Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry trends that may affect product offerings. Help coordinate product launches and changes (namely, fund launches, fund manager replacements, reallocations and IMA updates). Gain an understanding of how fund manager fee structures are set and support the team in shaping these decisions.

Investment Risk and Insights



Spend time with our Investment Risk and Insights team, shadowing specialists to learn how we monitor portfolios, analyse risk drivers, and provide data-driven insights to support investment decisions.

What we're looking for:



Graduate with a minimum 2:1 degree in finance, economics, mathematics. Minimum grade B at A-level mathematics Interest in investments, financial markets and the wealth management market. Clear and confident communication, both written and verbal Proficiency in MS Office (Excel and PowerPoint); experience with Python, Power BI or similar tools is an advantage. Highly organised, collaborative, and committed to producing high-quality work. Desire and commitment to pursue further professional qualifications (specifically IMC and CFA)

Special Requirements:



You will be based in our office in the City of London and will be expected to be in the office for a minimum of 3 days per week and more when business needs require it. From time to time you may be required to travel to other SJP offices across the UK, particularly Cirencester in Gloucestershire where some of the wider Investment Directorate are based.

To be eligible for this vacancy, all candidates must have the right to work in the UK.



This programme is due to last for two years. If your right to work is based on a Visa that will expire before the end of the programme, it may not be possible to employ you in the role as at present, this programme does not meet the minimum salary thresholds required for skilled worker visa sponsorship under the UK Home Office guidelines. As a result, we're unable to accept applications from those requiring visa sponsorship in order to complete the programme.
