We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness, they're likely to die from.


The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.

Marie Curie is seeking a dedicated Ward Manager / Clinical Nurse Manager to lead our Inpatient Unit (IPU) at Glasgow Hospice. As a Band 7 practitioner and key member of the multidisciplinary team, you will be accountable for the overall management of the unit, including staff and volunteer supervision, service coordination, and the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care.

What You'll be doing:

Lead and inspire a team to deliver exceptional care to terminally ill patients and those important to them. Oversee recruitment, deployment, and supervision of staff and volunteers. Champion clinical excellence, quality improvement, and innovation in care delivery. Manage budgets and resources effectively, ensuring operational efficiency. Contribute to clinical governance and strategic development across the organisation. Foster a compassionate, inclusive, and person-centred environment for patients, families, and colleagues. Create and manage staff rosters to ensure safe and effective staffing levels. Monitor and maintain establishment headcount in line with service needs. Participate in occasional direct clinical patient management. Attend and contribute to face-to-face meetings as part of the senior leadership team.

What we're looking for:

Currently working at Band 6 or above, with substantial ward-based experience in a healthcare setting. Demonstrated experience in palliative or end-of-life care, with a deep understanding of the complexities and sensitivities involved. NMC registration is essential. Proven ability to lead and manage a team of nurses and healthcare professionals, fostering a supportive and high-performing environment.

Additional Information

Salary: Marie Curie Clinical Pay Scale Band 7 (aligned with AFC) 50,861 - 59,159 per annum + enhancements

Contract: Permanent - Full Time Hours 37.5 per week Monday to Friday
