Are you an experienced IT professional looking for an opportunity to contribute to sustainability outcomes at a global level? Future Earth Lab is partnering with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to carry out analysis designed to inform sustainable policy decisions at a global scale. We are seeking an experienced IT professional to oversee the development and architecture of the data and analysis systems for this project.

Location:

UK based, remote, with occasional in person meetings.

Must have the right to work in the UK

Duration:

Part time, flexible, for up to 6 months, based on project duration

About the project:



Future Earth Lab is partnering with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to carry out analysis designed to inform sustainable policy decisions at a global scale.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) works to shift industry norms and practices towards sustainability, including through its InTex (Innovative Business Practices and Economic Models in the Textile Value Chain) project, funded by the European Union. Under this project, UNEP is partnering with Future Earth Lab to carry out an evaluation of different potential pathways of the textile value chain towards sustainability and circularity, exploring the likely environmental, social, and economic outcomes at global level from these different approaches. The project duration is 6 months, and will be delivered by a team of experts from a range of disciplines.

About the role:



We are seeking an experienced IT professional to oversee the development and architecture of the data and analysis systems for this project. The successful candidate will need to advise on all IT aspects of the system, including supporting the setup of database and modelling functions, as well as a lead role in ensuring effective connectivity between systems. Potential activities include selection and installation of relevant storage and security systems, writing and deploying code in python, SQL and other relevant coding languages, ensuring connectivity between elements of the project e.g. between databases and modelling software, and supporting use and extraction of data from relevant external sources such as MRIO databases. Other members of the team will bring industry knowledge, system and modelling knowledge, sustainability and impact quantification expertise, data management and processing expertise, documentation capacity, and key stakeholder knowledge and connections.

Desired expertise for the role:



Strong experience with database management and database architecture, including use of SQL Demonstrated expertise in the use of Python and other relevant coding languages for data retrieval and processing Experience with system storage, security and other IT infrastructure tasks Some experience with system dynamics software such as Vensim Experience with MRIO databases and relevant methods for extracting suitable data from them Knowledge of/interest in sustainability is a plus
