The IT Officer will support the IT Manager in ensuring the smooth operation of the organization's IT infrastructure. This role involves assisting with the management, maintenance, and troubleshooting of IT systems, providing technical support to staff, and contributing to the development and implementation of IT policies and procedures.


6 months contract - Renewable with potential for permanent conversion


Salary 27,000 - 30,000 depending on experience, P.A. plus benefits

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:



Providing first and second-line technical support to end-users via various channels (phone, email, in-person), resolving hardware and software issues, and answering technical queries. Installing, configuring, and maintaining computer systems and peripherals. Assist in the deployment and setup of new hardware and software. Assist in managing and supporting the organisation's Microsoft 365 environment Assisting end-users to set up and troubleshoot issues with A/V systems in meeting rooms. Assist in the development of IT policies and procedures Contribute to the implementation and monitoring of security measures and penetration testing Perform other duties as assigned by the IT Manager or Director of Digital Transformation

We're seeking a highly skilled and dedicated IT Officer to join our Digital Transformation team. This is a pivotal role that goes beyond routine technical support, placing you at the forefront of ensuring the seamless, secure, and efficient functioning of our entire IT ecosystem.


In this position, you'll be instrumental in safeguarding the reliability and performance of all IT hardware, software, and Audio/Visual (AV) systems that our staff rely on daily. Your expertise will directly contribute to minimizing downtime, maximizing productivity, and maintaining a robust digital environment essential for the Energy Institute's continuous progress. You'll be part of a collaborative team that not only resolves immediate challenges but also looks ahead, embracing new technologies and best practices to continually enhance our IT capabilities. This role offers an exciting opportunity to apply your technical acumen in a dynamic setting, troubleshoot a diverse range of issues, and contribute significantly to our organizational resilience and innovation.


As part of your contribution to the IT team, you'll be actively involved in supporting the daily operations of IT hardware, software, and AV, providing crucial technical assistance for the organisation's day-to-day IT issues. This includes supporting and troubleshooting office hardware and software equipment, notably Microsoft 365 issues, laptops, and AV assistance. A key aspect of the role also involves staying abreast of technology developments to ensure the Energy Institute remains at the cutting edge.


You will be expected to meet your individual key performance indicators and maintain standards and objectives for the team in line with organisational values. You will utilise your expertise to effectively support and contribute to the implementation and development of the EI work programme.

You will undertake any other duties necessary to this post as delegated by the IT Manager.

Key skills required




Proven Experience in providing 1st and 2nd line IT support.


An extensive background in desktop support for Windows, with a desirable level of experience in macOS.


Comprehensive understanding of Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive.


Exceptional troubleshooting abilities and the capacity to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.


Excellent customer service skills, with a user-focused approach.


Solid cybersecurity awareness and a foundational understanding of penetration testing methodologies or security auditing principles.


Demonstrable experience in incident response, particularly in identifying, containing, and escalating cyber incidents.


Experience in Microsoft Windows systems administration, particularly Windows Server


Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with other IT professionals


Clear and concise communication skills, enabling you to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders effectively.


Outstanding time management and organizational skills

Desirable




Basic Networking knowledge: Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi.


Experience with VPNs or Remote Access Solutions


Printer management & troubleshooting


Understanding of Cloud Services (beyond M365): (e.g., Azure, AWS fundamentals)


Experience with IT ticketing systems


Ability to Create and Maintain Technical Documentation


An awareness of AI/ML concepts and their potential applications within an IT support or operational context
