Description



The role



The candidate will have responsibility for the successful initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure of projects that have a technical focus. However, there is scope to manage non-technical projects if availability allows.

They will need to co-ordinate testing activities through development lifecycle, user acceptance tests and live environment delivery as appropriate and managing the hand over to business-as-usual activities.

Several services are supplied by third parties, and management of outsourced suppliers is a key requirement.

If the size of the project dictates, also provide business analysis services. Manage the IT department project and task system and manage a resourcing calendar for successful project delivery.


Environment



The IT team, with the assistance of a number of key suppliers, supports approximately 1300 people across 10 offices (9 in the UK and 1 in the Republic of Ireland).


Job responsibilities



Programme Manage a large portfolio of IT projects to the business. Manage projects from planning through to post implementation handover e.g. scoping, project objectives, resource planning, resource management and deliverables execution etc. Complete business analysis on large projects. Develop change and communication programmes. Work with third party vendors to source solutions and implement appropriate support contracts. Produce and manage all project documents e.g. project plans, resource requirements, budgets, communications plans, risk registers, etc. Effectively manage all key internal and external stakeholders. Provide appropriate management reporting. Run project meetings with internal and external project teams and suppliers. Leading the project team including organisation of the various assigned resources. Negotiating with contractors and suppliers for materials and services. Ensuring project objectives are met and driving deliverables to tight timeframes and budgets. Ensuring that at each stage projects are progressing on time, on budget and to the right quality standards. Effective leadership and management of IT staff driving successful project outcomes

Person specification



A Project Manager with a broad experience of managing projects from inception to completion. The ability and confidence to take control of any issues arising. A strong balance of assertive and negotiation skills, able to resolve conflict and drive outcomes in challenging circumstances. Ability to multi task, prioritise heavy workloads and remain focussed on key delivery targets. Works well with others in the team and acts as a role model, setting high standards of quality and demonstrating commitment to self-development. Uses knowledge to support his or her own team and transfers skills in areas of expertise. Communicates effectively with people and team members alike, with a high degree of commitment to customer service. Communicates with clarity, sets clear objectives for team members that are aligned to business plans, monitors and assesses performance, providing timely feedback and support as necessary. Develops and maintains strong, collaborative relationships with the business, ensuring needs are anticipated, expectations managed, and feedback sought. Takes action to break down 'silo barriers', working across disciplines and functions. Well-developed interpersonal skills. Demonstrates effective decision making, aligned to IT and Business strategies, to satisfy a range of stakeholder needs and overcoming potential barriers, including deadlines and incompleteness of information. Demonstrates an ability to analyse and prioritise situations from an operational perspective, including the impact on business operations. Selects, analyses and presents information and effectively communicates results. Identifies new processes and simplifies practices to improve operational efficiency. Demonstrates a commitment to change, implementing and leading change projects within the team, where relevant. Flexibility: the applicant must appreciate the occasional need for out of hours and weekend work as well as being in contact out of office hours to support this level of serviceability Providing advice and mentoring to all IT department staff on the management of projects, Creation and maintenance of standard IT department project documentation and processes. Monitoring contractors and suppliers to ensure guidelines and plans are achieved. Highly developed organisational skills including the ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks. Numeracy skills. Commercial focus. Self-motivated and directed.

A 35-hour working week with flexibility around the core hours of 10am-4pm Agile working policy giving you the option to work from home for up to 3 days per week. 25 days annual leave. After 5 years' service, the entitlement will be increased by 1 day. In addition, employees are entitled to buy or sell up to 5 days holiday a year Contributory pension scheme (The firm will contribute 5% of salary on a matched basis with employee from their date of joining) Life assurance cover of 4 x annual salary, Company car as per Managers' Car Scheme. Eligibility for the discretionary bonus scheme. This is based on both individual performance and firm performance.
