IT Project Manager/Implementation Specialist
This is a full time, fixed term role for 18 months. The salary is up to 50,000 depending on skills and experience.

What is the job?
This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to help shape, mould and redefine the IT Project Management function.
To be a key member of the IT project delivery function within the wider IT team, responsible for contributing to, and the delivery of, various work packages, workstreams and small/medium projects initiated from within IT and/or wider business projects and initiatives.
You'll ensure the IT project delivery function, delivers the right outcomes for colleagues and customers, doing so safely, effectively and efficiently and following the GWR project management methodology and adoption of best practice. You'll help support and mature the IT project delivery function's reputation as a team that delivers on-time and on-budget
What will I be doing?
This role is required to manage delivery of GWR ITs transition from private to public ownership. Working as an intrinsic member of the IT Team, delivering on business and technical readiness aligned to the requirements set by the Public Ownership Team.
As a transition project, the goal is to move from a current state to a desired future state the project could involve delivering changes in operations, systems, people, or locations.
How will I do this?
Your main responsibilities will be:

  • To deliver allocated aspects of project delivery (work packages, workstreams, project) as agreed with the Senior Project Manager, using appropriate tools and methods to include:
  • Planning - of project, work streams and work packages.
  • Definition of objectives & outcomes - work with stakeholders to agree objectives and outcomes.
  • Stakeholder and communication plans - application of proportionate and appropriate communications to support the delivery of project/work streams/work packages.
  • Scope, timescales, schedule, key milestones (identify and agreed)
  • Constraints - Safety Management. Delivering change in a way that adheres to the safety environment of the railways.
  • Budget - support the generation of business cases for continued justification and delivery focuswhere required.
  • RAIDD; Risk, assumptions, issues and dependences, decisions.
  • Ensure assigned project/work packages are delivered in accordance with appropriate business project methodologies and all required stages and governance gateways are adhered to.
  • Ensure project plans and documentation are completed to a high standard using GWR project tools.
  • Provide information and support to the Snr Project Manager on planned/project progression reports for distribution to appropriate governance boards and reporting requests.
  • Facilitate project meetings for allocated projects/initiatives where required.
  • Perform project assurance, quality reviews and change control when required for assigned projects/initiatives.
  • Participation in internal working groups and workshops when required.
  • Provide an active role in the wider IT team, supporting colleagues, contributing to discussions and driving a 'can do' attitude.
  • Be inquisitive, drive continuous improvements and look to challenge the status quo where improvements are identified.
  • Support the Senior Project Manager in delivering across the IT change portfolio.
What sort of person are you looking for?
You'll need to be:
  • An effective Project Management lead with fantastic communication skills and the ability to build good working relationships across functions and layers.
  • Expert project manager who's able to provide process and rigour to projects.
  • Knowledgeable of project methodologies and processes.
  • Proficient in the management of project assurance, quality reviews and change control.
  • Able to demonstrate strong collaborative working style.
What do I need to have?
  • You must be experienced in project management, working with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitation experience is desirable, i.e. project kick start events.
  • A proactive approach to work and be able to work at pace.
Interviews will be held week commencing 3rd November.

Additional Information
This is a full time, fixed term role for 18 months. It is based in Milford House, Swindon, with some travel required across the GWR network.
