IT Support Apprentice Level 3



Contamac manufacture polymers for contact and intraocular lenses (used in cataract surgery) and are based in Saffron Walden.

We require a 1st line IT Support Apprentice, who is willing to learn new skills effectively and quickly. Working alongside our external helpdesk company within an IT supportive environment, effectively becoming a key member of their team, using their ticketing / management systems and being fully trained by them. This is a perfect opportunity for an individual who wants to gain hands-on experience, earn while you learn and work towards a nationally recognised IT qualification. This qualification will be fully funded by Contamac and is called 'Information Communications Technician Level 3', this is a training programme set up by a company called 'Lifetime Training'.

The Apprenticeship Details:



You will be working in a role that deals with communications and wishes to improve your knowledge to help internal and external customers, including digital communication, networking and supporting clients. The training uses a blended delivery model which uses bi-weekly online live training and 1:1 session, which are all supported with online resources and supported time off to study.

This is a 13-month training programme, which includes an EPA (End Point Assessment) which includes a project with a presentation and a professional discussion.

The Job:



Located onsite at Contamac in Saffron Walden and line managed by Contamac, for the sole purpose of assisting with IT tickets for the resolution of technical problems on a variety of hardware and systems, both cloud based and on premise. We are looking for an individual who can be customer facing for our internal clients (employees) and be able to turn their hand to help assist them with any I.T issue.

Working within a supportive team environment, where you will be required to work independently using your own initiative. You must be a natural analytical and problem-solving person.

We have several sites on Shire Hill and a subsidiary located in Whittlesford, for this reason having a full driving licenser with the ability to drive to and from sites, would be advantageous but not essential to the role, as there are good public transport links.

Duration:

Permanent, Monday - Friday, 09:00 - 17:00 (37.5hrs per week)

Salary:

Apprentice Wage 9.22 p/h (16,596 per annum)

Role Objective



Provide technical support Resolve support queries, onsite, by phone or email Troubleshoot and problem solve workstation issues Implement, manage and maintain workstations Implement and support MS Office Suite Install desktop hardware / software Install and support network and local printers Install desktop IP phones Setup iPad, iPhone and Android devices Carry out remote support Diagnose and repair a range of IT devices Help maintain the IT Inventory of equipment and spare parts Maintain and update IT documentation, including user help guides and support team 'how-to' documentation Ad-hoc duties as required including occasional data entry into some systems

Knowledge & Experience



Essential



Willingness to learn and Knowledge of Windows desktop and server operating systems Microsoft Windows 10, 11 Microsoft Office 365 and 2016/2019 Keen interest in IT Support Good organisational, problem solving and timekeeping skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Team player Attention to detail Outstanding customer service skills Effective communication in English Commutable daily to Saffron Walden, Essex.

Advantageous



Understanding of AI Tools, both Generative and Agentic Awareness of cyber security threats and organizational good practice Windows Server skills including Windows Server OS and Active Directory Virtualisation environments; VMWare Esxi and Hyper-V A working knowledge and understanding of email technologies Administration experience of MS Active Directory users and groups, policies and management concepts Running powershell scripts Working understanding of networking, including DNS/DHCP/TCPIP, and network equipment (Switches, routers, firewalls, etc.)
