The IT Field Engineer / IT Systems Support Engineer - Cluster Role plays a critical role in delivering hands-on IT support and technical services across multiple hotel properties within a region. This position is responsible for maintaining hotel technology systems, resolving user issues, assisting with installations, and ensuring reliable performance of IT infrastructure.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical troubleshooting abilities, a customer-focused mindset, and a passion for IT in a hospitalityenvironment, where technology directly enhances guest satisfaction and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
To support the Cluster IT Manager and provide on-site and remote IT support for end users across all assigned hotel properties, ensuring timely resolution of hardware, software, and network issues.
Respond to IT service tickets, escalate critical incidents when needed, and follow up on open issues until resolution.
Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventative measures to reduce recurring problems.
Showing teamwork and flexibility, assist in the set up/maintenance of the hotel technology, e.g. Phones, Desktop, Laptops, Network, Audio & Visual, Mobile.
Systems Maintenance & Infrastructure
Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of hotel technology systems including servers, networking equipment, Wi-Fi, CCTV, point-of-sale (POS), and property management systems (PMS).
To test and check the back-ups and maintain documentation and asset registers created by IT Systems Manager or Support companies.
To schedule with 3rd party's preventative maintenance with the support provider.
MDF / IDF checks and maintenance on a scheduled basis.
Project Support
Participate in hotel pre-opening IT setup, system rollouts, and infrastructure upgrades under the guidance of the Cluster IT Manager.
Coordinate with vendors and contractors for installations and service support as needed.
To support the Cluster IT Manager in IT Projects supporting 3rd party roll outs.
Daily Tasks
Troubleshooting and repair on escalated issues
Reporting and Systems checks using tools and self testing (Citrix, File Servers, Opera)
Checking ticketing systems (CMS, Opera) for progress and updates
License checks (Office 365, user and mailbox management).
Security checks of email security / virus protection and encryption.
Liaising with staff at hotels for ticket creation and escalation of support if required.
Continual documentation of systems.
Collate and maintain data used for monitoring systems (Drive Space, Bandwidth, Concurrency)
Testing new systems and hardware before full scale deployment.
Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco) are an advantage.
Minimum 2-4 years of experience in a hands-on IT support or field engineer role, preferably within the hospitality or service industry.
Intermediate / Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
Knowledge of:
o Microsoft 365
o Microsoft Desktop and Server experience
o Networking / VLAN / Wi-Fi technologies
o Telephony IP and Analogue
o Internet (Leased Line, MPLS)
o Documentation and Data Analysis
o Hospitality experience not essential but would be beneficial
o Audio Visual experience.
Strong problem-solving and multitasking abilities with a customer-first attitude.
Genuine passion for IT, with a strong desire to apply technology solutions that enhance the guest experience and operational efficiency in a hospitality setting.
Ability to travel frequently within the assigned region.
Working Conditions
Frequent travel is required across hotel properties in the assigned region to provide in-person IT support, perform system maintenance, and collaborate with hotel teams.
Must be available for occasional on-call duties, weekend work, or after-hours support depending on operational demands or emergency situations.
Work may be performed in various hotel environments, including front and back-office areas, server rooms, guest areas, and equipment closets.
Involves moderate physical activity, such as lifting IT equipment, cabling, or installing hardware on-site.
Exposure to fast-paced hotel operations requires flexibility, responsiveness, and a proactive support approach.
