Lancing College runs a Server 2022 / Windows 11 network of approximately 600 PCs and laptops supporting 1500+ users on four sites. We have two suites of Apple iMacs. We support Pupils own devices on a BYOD basis. All pupils are required to being their ow device and teachers are provided with a Surface Pro laptop.
The Trainee IT Technician role is ideally suited to an individual starting their career in IT or that has been in a similar role previously. In an environment perfect for learning a broad range of IT skills we are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and focused individual to join our thriving IT Department. The successful applicant will need their own mode of transport as visiting the Lancing College Prep schools will be a twice weekly occurrence.
The Role
The Trainee IT Technician will maintain and develop the school's IT resources for safe, effective use by pupils and staff, support and advise pupils and staff in the appropriate use of IT. The post-holder will be expected to monitor and assist in the management of the college's IT support service.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Desktop & Application Support
To connect, set up and check PCs and peripherals for normal operation in both a standalone and domain environment.
To perform routine maintenance tasks, including installing basic software packages and setting common options.
To perform basic PC hardware repairs and upgrades.
To maintain common hardware found in school; install applications and trouble-shoot basic problems.
To maintain, upgrade and repair a wide range of PCs and peripherals; install complete applications.
To detect, diagnose and resolve PC, peripheral and application errors.
To oversee day to day management of college owned iPads.
Server & Network Support
To maintain and update information on the school's VLE.
To perform routine tasks to maintain user accounts and permissions, including implementing disk space and printer quota policies.
Health & Safety
To carry out basic safety checks.
To follow relevant Health and Safety procedures and raise awareness among staff, pupils and other users.
Configuration & Installation
To follow agreed test procedures for new IT equipment.
To follow agreed test procedures for new Software Packages.
To update records of installed hardware and software; maintain a software library and store original copies of installed applications.
Continuity, Maintenance & Security
To follow routine maintenance procedures.
To follow school backup, virus protection and security procedures.
Support Request Management
To record accurately support requests, outcomes and time taken in the IT helpdesk.
To investigate requests for support; record diagnostic information, retrieve details of similar requests and either resolve or escalate to the appropriate level.
Internal Support Arrangements & External Contracts
To work to the school's support service level.
To communicate effectively with 3rd Party Suppliers.
To escalate contract/warranty issues appropriately.
To identify possible IT requirements and solutions.
To work as part of a team and adopt flexible working practices.
Strategy & Planning
To identify possible IT requirements and solutions.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Personal Qualities:
An interest in developing a career in the IT profession.
Clear oral and written communication skills.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office.
Awareness of or interest in networking concepts (experience is welcome but not required).
Familiarity with Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to work within a small team environment but also independently
