We seek an ambitious and self-motivated individual to join our Network Team as an IT Technician. Working as part of the IT team, you will undertake a wide range of tasks, including, but not limited to: helping maintain the IT infrastructure and delivering effective service, support and solutions to staff and students of The Petersfield School, and to other schools supported by the Trust. As an integral and highly valued part of the school, you will be customer-centric, proactive and, where necessary, re-active, in order to support the continuous and smooth running of the IT systems within the school. You will be competent in diagnosing and resolving issues and have the ability to work on your own initiative. You will add value with your methodical yet creative approach to problem-solving and task prioritization, as well as a calm and diplomatic approach to situations. You will be required to set-up IT/AVA facilities for assemblies, exams and other occasions as needed, so a flexible and positive can-do approach towards all school staff and students is essential. Working knowledge and experience of network systems/fundamentals, trends and server administration is preferred but not required and ICT experience in the Education sector would be advantageous.
Role Purpose
Assisting in the development, support, maintenance and security of all ICT systems within the school.
Assisting in the installation, configuration and testing of hardware and software.
Providing technical advice and assistance in the classroom to support pupils and teaching staff with learning activities.
Assist with staff training as required.
Key Duties
The candidate shall establish and maintain good relationships with all Students, parents/carers, colleagues and other professionals.
The candidate shall assist with the operation of the school's information and communication networks, undertaking appropriate repairs as necessary
The candidate shall advise on and assist with the effective development of the school's information and communications networks
The candidate shall assist her/his line manager and the senior leadership team with hardware and software matters within the school including any ICT developments, relevant bids and suppliers
The candidate shall assist administrative staff with hardware and software operations as required by her/his line manager including SIMS and Office 365
The candidate shall assist in ensuring that staff and students have a satisfactory, robust, reliable and secure ICT environment, including checking the functioning of all networking connections and active components, back-up schemes for the curriculum and administration ICT environments
The candidate shall carry out checks including adjusting monitor settings if required and cleaning monitors and keyboards
The candidate shall install and configure hardware and software including new releases, carry out testing and train staff
The candidate shall monitor the performance of hardware, software and the network, identifying problems and resolving them, and advising her/his line manager of issues and potential improvements
The candidate shall provide live run scheduling and monitoring as required, including integrity checking for archive/back-up data including data export for networks and other regular housekeeping and maintenance procedures
The candidate shall ensure security of work on the network by maintaining a regular programme of backing-up on the NAS drives; and setting and monitoring access levels of all users
The candidate shall assist with the safe receipt and storage of hardware, software and consumables including any necessary unpacking and installation
The candidate shall maintain accurate and up to date records of all ICT hardware and software on site including, for example, laptops and digital projectors using an asset directory.
To assist staff, pupils and other technicians in the investigation and resolution of faults within all computers which arise from time to time
The candidate shall check and re-fit toner and cartridges and carry out periodic printer/ photocopier maintenance such as head cleaning and alignment. Liaise with photocopier provider for support as necessary
The candidate shall control stock, including liaising with suppliers, maintaining records, and monitoring stock levels
The candidate shall maintain a log of work undertaken, problems, changes and resolutions
In conjunction with the Network Manager, the candidate shall monitor and manage the use of the internet within the school, including the management of e-mail accounts
Administering AD login accounts, Distribution and Security Group membership and Group Policy within a Windows Active Directory
The candidate shall maintain user, public and shared folders and desktops
The candidate shall support the delivery of INSET programmes for staff and assemblies as required
To assist in monitoring the use of the network and report suspected misuse
To assist in the maintenance of the school Management Information System
