Scotland, United Kingdom

Job Description

IT/OT Integration Engineer (Project Delivery) - Manufacturing Integration - Glasglow Remote working available.
Duration: 12 months
Rate: Flexible (INSIDE OF IR35)
Location: Scotland (with flexibility for occasional remote work and ad hoc site visits)
Industry: Manufacturing / FMCG
Employment Type: Contract / Freelance
About the Role
We are working on a major global initiative that bridges the gap between Operational Technology (OT) and Enterprise IT systems across a diverse and evolving manufacturing landscape.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering, project delivery, and technology integration.
You will lead complex IT/OT integration projects, working hands-on with site teams to connect plant-level systems into enterprise infrastructure - all while ensuring stakeholder alignment, risk mitigation, and practical on-the-ground execution.
This role is ideal for someone with deep technical knowledge, strong project leadership, and experience navigating the challenges of real-world manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of IT/OT integration projects across global manufacturing sites.
  • Act as the bridge between engineering, IT, cybersecurity, and site operations.
  • Assess, design, and implement solutions that integrate control systems, sensors, MES, and other OT assets into enterprise networks.
  • Adapt solutions to a wide range of equipment vintages, from legacy systems to modern infrastructures.
  • Ensure practical deployment by working closely with site teams, technicians, and engineers.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships across multiple business units and geographies.
  • Identify and manage risks, dependencies, and constraints throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support conversations around cybersecurity standards (e.g., IEC 62443), ensuring compliance and best practice without being the SME.
  • Provide budget insight, project reporting, and resource planning as needed.
Key Requirements
  • Technical Experience
  • Proven experience in IT/OT convergence projects in manufacturing, FMCG, or process industries.
  • Strong understanding of networking, control systems, PLC/SCADA, and MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems).
  • Exposure to continuous process plants, packaging environments, or hazardous area installations is highly advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity in industrial environments and awareness of IEC 62443 or similar standards.
Project Management
  • Experience managing full project lifecycles - from concept through to deployment and post-go-live support.
  • Ability to balance technical complexity with business needs and practical constraints.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Budget awareness and ability to operate within cost and schedule constraints.
Preferred Background
  • 10+ years of experience preferred; open to 5+ years for high-potential candidates with strong hands-on exposure.
  • Started in a technical or trade-based role (e.g., instrumentation tech, controls engineer) and progressed into project or managerial roles.
  • Experience in regulated environments such as pharmaceutical, energy, oil & gas, or nuclear is a strong asset.
  • Evidence of self-development and a commitment to continuous learning.
Soft Skills & Attributes
  • Practical, hands-on thinker - not just theoretical.
  • Excellent communicator who can drive conversations between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Risk-aware, methodical, and delivery-focused.
  • Adaptable to diverse and evolving environments with a balance of ambition and realism.
Location & Travel
Role is based in Scotland, but candidates from other UK regions will be considered if they have flexibility to travel to site as needed.
Travel to various UK and international sites may be required on an ad hoc basis.
Why Join?
This is a rare opportunity to join a major global manufacturing initiative where technology meets reality. You'll play a vital role in transforming legacy operations through thoughtful, practical integration of modern systems, all while collaborating with experts across engineering, cybersecurity, and IT.
