Java / Scala Developer
500-525 p/d inside IR35
Hybrid, London - 2-3 days on site
6 months + extension
Brief
My client is looking for an experienced Java / Scala Developer to join a leading investment bank to sit within their FICC eTrading technology team.
While strong Java/Spring expertise is essential, prior experience with Scala is highly desirable - but not a requirement, if you have a genuine willingness to learn.
Key Responsibilities

• Design and build eTrading solutions for market connectivity, price distribution, and RFQ engines.

• Collaborate with trading desks, quants, and strategists for L3 production support and new solution design.

• Enhance and maintain core Credit eTrading systems while contributing to cross-FICC initiatives.

Required Skills

• Strong Java / Spring development background.

• Proven experience building FIX trading solutions.

• Hands-on experience with eTrading workflows in Credit or Rates.

• Strong debugging and profiling skills across JDK languages (Java, Scala, Kotlin, Clojure).

• Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and build tools (Maven, Gradle, SBT, Jenkins).

• Experience with Unix/Linux environments, including process and network diagnostics.

• Exposure to messaging, monitoring, and container orchestration (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Kubernetes, Docker, etc.).

• Solid knowledge of SQL/NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, HBase, etc.).

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Scala functional or concurrency libraries (ZIO, Akka Streams, Monix).

• Knowledge of C++ or Rust for performance-critical systems.

• Experience with CQRS architecture and reactive programming (ReactiveX, Spring Reactor).
