We are seeking a dedicated and versatile individual to join our team in the role of Harvesting Supervisor. You will assist the Harvesting Manager in the day to day harvesting of the houses and ensure quality and maximum efficiency is achieved.
Duties will include:
To effectively plan and organise the people resource on the line to ensure the most efficient production output.
Ensure that all Hygiene and Health & Safety rules and procedures are followed by all operatives.
Ensure that all employees comply with quality and good manufacturing procedures.
Ensure that all Harvesting KPI's are achieved.
Ensuring that the products presented are of the highest possible standard; with particular focus given to weights, sizing, stem length, punnet identification and capping up.
Drive efficiencies within the growing houses and department.
Effectively communicate all Company information to all operatives in the growing houses.
Ensure that the growing houses and other linked areas are kept clean and tidy, at all time. Using a 'clean as you go' rule.
Ensure all waste and resources are kept to a minimum.
Ensure all documented details are recorded accurately and all changeover information is precise.
Continuously monitor the process and offer ideas for improvement.
Motivate your team and develop a good team spirit.
Ensure all staff receive adequate training and report any gaps where applicable.
Leadership - take responsibility for team performance and take corrective action where necessary.
Member of site's Food Safety, HACCP, TACCP and VACCP team.
Lead by example - set the standard you want your team to follow.
Liaise with other Departmental Managers and Agency Account Managers to make sure they fulfil their commitments to you.
Commence work 15 minutes prior to harvesters start time: -
Review working plan for the day.
Review allocated growing houses.
Review quality and sizes of mushrooms on the beds.
Identify sections that require immediate attention.
Check the days orders.
Once harvesters commenced to work: -
Give knifes for harvester and ensuring the knife sheet is fill in.
Give clear instructions to the harvesters (orders to complete, sizes, picking plan).
Check first pass. Review the next pass.
Throughout the day: -
Review harvesting sections.
Check picked products ensuring they meet the specification:
Quality - are the right mushrooms harvested in the right punnets
Sizes - same class of sizes in one punnet
Presentation - 1 class mushrooms must be capped up.
Stalk length and stalk cut.
Monitoring and coaching pickers productivity and performance.
If harvesters find any disease, then this should be reported to grower.
Inform harvesters if harvesting priorities change.
Review up to date performance of allocated houses.
Review/update harvesters working schedule.
Decide number of harvesters required daily.
Update forecast for next day in all allocated houses.
Provide feedback to harvesters.
At the end of the day: -
Decide on the final pass, ensuring you don't have second-class mushrooms for the following morning.
Ensure all mushrooms, irrespective of their size, with long stalks are harvested.
Review all harvesters' sections. On the clear day, check the beds and ensure there is damaged, or pickers using the right technique to clear the beds.
Collect all the knifes and fill up the knife sheet.
Other Duties:-
Support other Harvesting Supervisors/Trainers to ensure they are performing their functions to the farm standards.
Training new supervisors for the harvesting team.
Develop and implement harvesting schedules aligned with production forecasts, rosters/transportation plans.
Assess the crop within the houses daily and ensure the correct manning and plans are in place in line with anticipated yields
Assist in working with trainers to ensure correct number of people are being taken from placing to harvesting each week for training as pickers.
Give trainers feedback on pickers which have been moved from training to picking,
Observe training programme is followed and people are being trained for the required period
Ensure all completed work is safe and hygienic and complies with FSA and health and safety legislation.
Ensure all work carried out complies with relevant health and safety standards,

To undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time, that reasonably fall within the scope of the post.

Skills
Previous experience as Team Leader / Supervisor within a fresh produce environment
Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
