Jira Specialist

to lead the transformation of our Jira environment to support efficient workflows, reporting, and cross-team collaboration.

This is a

contract position

ideal for a Jira expert looking to make a strategic impact in a fast-paced, multi-departmental organization.

Position Summary



As the Jira Specialist, you will audit, streamline, and reconfigure our existing Jira setup, aligning it with the evolving operational needs of various departments. This includes mapping out critical processes (e.g., outage handling, provisioning, development sprints), implementing automation, and ensuring scalability through integrations and best practices. Your role will be cross-functional, working closely with engineering, operations, and leadership to deliver a high-performing Jira platform.

Key ResponsibilitiesJira Configuration & Administration



Audit existing Jira projects, workflows, fields, permissions, and screens Design and implement new workflows aligned with operational and business requirements Configure issue types, custom fields, screens, and automation rules for optimized ticket management

Process Mapping & Improvement



Collaborate with Development, Network Operations, and City Operations teams to gather Jira use cases and pain points Translate business processes (e.g., service provisioning, outage notifications) into effective Jira workflows Identify opportunities to consolidate tools/processes into Jira or through integration

Systems Integration & Automation



Integrate Jira with third-party systems (e.g., OSS/BSS platforms, scheduling tools, APIs) Develop or configure automations to eliminate repetitive manual tasks Work with internal development teams and vendors to ensure secure and stable integrations

Governance, Standards & Documentation



Define and document standards for Jira usage, permission structures, naming conventions, and best practices Create user guides, SOPs, and training materials for team adoption Establish governance policies to maintain long-term Jira health and data consistency

Reporting & Dashboard Creation



Build dashboards, filters, and reports tailored to key stakeholders (technical, operational, and executive audiences) Deliver real-time visibility into KPIs such as SLA adherence, backlog, outage resolution, and provisioning timelines

Stakeholder Engagement



Collaborate with leadership to align Jira improvements with organizational goals Communicate upcoming Jira changes, gather feedback, and ensure alignment across departments Advise on the use of additional Atlassian tools (e.g., Confluence, Bitbucket) to extend functionality

Qualifications & Experience



Required:



3+ years of hands-on experience as a Jira Administrator or Specialist in multi-project environments Proven expertise in configuring Jira projects, workflows, permissions, screens, and notifications Experience with Atlassian Marketplace tools (e.g., ScriptRunner, Automation for Jira, Tempo) Familiarity with REST APIs, webhooks, and system integrations Strong documentation, collaboration, and stakeholder communication skills Ability to translate business processes into technical solutions

Preferred:



Atlassian certifications (ACP-JA, ACP-600, etc.) Experience with Agile, DevOps, or ITIL frameworks Familiarity with Confluence, Bitbucket, or other Atlassian suite tools
