to join our team. The primary focus of this role is to ensure the compliance, integrity, and safety of fire doors across various commercial, residential, and public sector properties. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting meticulous inspections, carrying out expert repairs, and installing new certified fire door sets to meet all relevant British Standards and building regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Repair
Perform competent and compliant repairs to damaged or non-compliant fire doors, including frames, ironmongery, seals, and closers, ensuring all work adheres to manufacturer specifications.
Install new certified timber and/or composite fire door sets, frames, and associated hardware in accordance with approved fire certification details and project requirements.
Accurately fit and install fire-rated ironmongery, including panic hardware, latches, hinges, door closers, and intumescent seals/smoke seals.
Carry out remedial works to existing fire doors, such as replacing or upgrading non-compliant components (e.g., inadequate gaps, faulty seals, or incorrect hinges).
Perform general joinery tasks as required to complete door-related projects.
Inspection & Compliance
Conduct comprehensive visual and physical inspections of new and existing fire doors (FD30, FD60, etc.) to identify defects and compliance issues.
Document all work accurately using required digital systems (e.g., tablet/PDA) and provide detailed reports on the condition of doors and remedial actions taken.
Ensure all installation and repair work is carried out in strict accordance with relevant fire safety regulations, including
BS 8214
and the
Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO)
.
Maintain a thorough understanding of current fire door standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
General
Manage and organise tools, equipment, and materials efficiently.
Adhere to all site Health and Safety procedures and company policies, including wearing appropriate PPE.
Liaase professionally with clients, site managers, and tenants.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
Proven experience as a qualified Joiner/Carpenter.
Demonstrable experience specifically in the installation, maintenance, and repair of timber fire doors.
A recognised Fire Door Installation/Maintenance qualification
(e.g., FIRAS/BM TRADA Q-Mark certified training or equivalent).
Solid understanding of fire door components, certification, and relevant British Standards (e.g., BS 476, BS EN 1634).
Full UK Driving Licence.
Good communication skills and ability to complete digital paperwork/reports.
Desirable
CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
Experience working on communal/social housing or public sector contracts.
Basic knowledge of passive fire protection systems.
