Trainee / Junior Application Engineer

We are supporting a highly regarded engineering business operating at the forefront of advanced machine tool technology. The company supplies fully engineered, high performance metal cutting solutions, from individual machine tools through to complex automated manufacturing cells.

Due to continued growth, they are now looking to recruit a Junior / Trainee Application Engineer to join their specialist engineering team. This role is well suited to an early career engineer who has a solid engineering foundation, a genuine interest in CNC machining, and the ambition to grow into a technically advanced, customer facing role.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys learning, problem solving, and travel, and who is looking to build a long term career within advanced manufacturing.

The Role

You will support the delivery of turnkey machine tool projects, working alongside experienced application engineers and internal engineering teams. Full training will be provided in grinding technology, particularly VIPER grinding, making this an ideal role for someone looking to develop specialist expertise.

Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting the planning and development of machining strategies for customer applications Assisting with CNC programming and programme optimisation Supporting machine prove outs, trials, and customer acceptance processes Assisting with first article inspection and quality checks Supporting customer training in machine operation and basic CNC programming Working closely with internal teams and customers to ensure successful project delivery Developing your technical knowledge through hands on exposure to advanced machine tools
About You

This role is aimed at a

junior or early career engineer

who may not tick every box technically but shows strong potential, motivation, and the right attitude.

You are likely to have:

A background in mechanical or manufacturing engineering An understanding of CNC machining and NC programming fundamentals Some exposure to metal cutting, milling, or machine tools Experience with Fanuc controls and AutoCAD is highly advantageous Any basic exposure to grinding is a bonus, but full training will be provided Strong transferable skills such as problem solving, communication, and organisation A genuine eagerness to learn, develop, and progress technically An interest in travel and working in customer environments A full UK driving licence
Location and Travel

The role is based at a Technical Centre in Coventry, with regular travel across the UK and Europe to support customer projects. This position will suit someone who enjoys variety, learning on site, and working with different customers and applications.
