Management of In-patients under general direction of a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon



To assist in Out Patient/Clinics and Main and Day Case Theatres under the supervision of the Consultant.



To participate in out of hours cover for Orthopaedics, as part of a modified partial shift, when he/she will be responsible for the immediate treatment of referred acute cases. To be available during duty to give medical advice in the Accident and Emergency Department or elsewhere in the hospital. To provide regular teaching to junior staff and undergraduates while 'on-take'.



To attend regular ward rounds with the Consultants or other junior medical staff.



The Clinical Fellow is expected to take part in Medical Audit and Postgraduate Education Programmes, and to play a full part in all the teaching and educational activities of the Medical Directorate, including the teaching of Undergraduate Medical Students.



To assist generally in the Department of Trauma & Orthopaedics and elsewhere during unexpected emergencies, sickness or for other reasons when requested.



The department is looking for candidates who have at least 1 years' experience at FY2 level or equivalent experience. The department is reviewing its resident doctor workforce and aims to attract more deanery core trainee doctors in the future, therefore these posts are advertised as 1-year fixed term, whilst the review of the workforce structure in the long term is ongoing.



As post holder you will be playing an integral part in delivering an excellent trauma and elective orthopaedic service. TRAUMA AND ORTHOPAEDIC DIRECTORATE



The Department provides an extensive Orthopaedic and Trauma service for the reception, assessment, examination and treatment of people with abnormalities of the musculo skeletal system or who have sustained a recent injury.



The Department offers good training for junior medical staff in Orthopaedic Surgery with a broad range of treatment and the management of Trauma and Elective patients. There is a link with the King's College UMDS, which provides four Specialty Trainee Registrars.



There are daily fracture clinics and typically each consultant team has 2 days trauma responsibilities. Day one will be the on call with a fracture clinic and ward round for admitted trauma patients. Day two is allocated in theatres for trauma surgery. The consultant teams have daily operating lists and elective outpatients' clinics.



This is a replacement post and ideal opportunity for a suitably qualified individual looking to develop skills within the Orthopaedic department.
