About PokeRand
We're one of the UK's most visible Pokemon trading card retailers, selling across Shopify and live-shopping platforms. We move fast, buy a lot of second-hand stock, and need a sharp numbers-owner in the building to keep our finance engine tight and scalable.
The role
We're hiring a Junior / Mid-level Finance Controller to own day-to-day financial control, stock/purchase tracking, and quarterly Global Margin Scheme (GMS) VAT preparation. You'll sit inside the business (not at the accountants), working closely with Operations and our external accountants to keep our numbers clean, timely, and decision-ready.
What you'll do
Own purchases & stock records: Log all second-hand buys (auctions/suppliers/private) with invoices and eligibility for GMS.
Sales & fees reconciliation: Pull weekly Shopify / live-platform reports; capture fees (platform, payment, shipping) for true margin.
GMS VAT prep (quarterly): Maintain the global margin tracker (eligible purchases vs sales), calculate margin and VAT (1/6 of margin), and hand a clean pack to our accountants.
Monthly management view: Produce simple, actionable P&L, cash flow snapshot, and inventory valuation for leadership.
Controls & cadence: Build tidy file structures, naming conventions, and checklists so nothing gets missed (receipts, returns, credits).
Tooling & automation: Improve the stack (e.g., Xero + Dext/Hubdoc + A2X/Link My Books + Google Sheets) and remove manual grunt work.
Partner with Ops: Align stock counts with finance, highlight non-GMS items (e.g., new/sealed), and keep everyone working from the same truth.
You'll be great at this if you have
2-4 years' experience in finance for retail/e-commerce/inventory businesses.
Qualification: AAT Level 4 or part-qualified ACCA/CIMA (or equivalent experience).
Strong Excel/Google Sheets (SUMIFS, INDEX-MATCH/XLOOKUP, pivots; comfort building clear models).
Working knowledge of Xero (or QuickBooks) and receipt capture tools (Dext/Hubdoc).
A practical understanding of VAT (ideally the Margin Scheme for second-hand goods) -- or the curiosity and discipline to master it quickly.
High ownership, tidy documentation habits, and the ability to explain numbers in plain English.
Nice to have
Experience reconciling Shopify and/or live-shopping platforms.
Built monthly management packs and cash-flow forecasts in a previous role.
What we offer
35,000-40,000 salary (DOE) and a clear progression path as we scale.
The chance to own the finance function day-to-day and shape our systems from the inside.
A fast, supportive environment where your dashboards and ideas get used immediately.
Work pattern
On-site in Mansfield, Monday-Friday (core hours).
Occasional flexibility around key reporting dates.
