A vacancy has become available for a Junior Food Technologist to join Aquascot's Technical Department. Aquascot is an employee owned business operating within the food industry, established for over 30 years it has a significant presence in the highlands. We are based in Alness, Ross-Shire and are committed to providing sustainable, high quality seafood to our customers.

The successful candidate will work as part of the Technical Team and reporting directly to the Technical Manager. The Junior Food Technologist will support the upkeep of the management and technical systems associated with food safety and quality.

They will also be required to assist during site audits and customer visits, along with any other reasonable duties requested by the Technical Management Team.

Key Responsibilities:

Suppliers and Customers:

1. Assisting during Third Party Audits and Customer Visits (BRC, Soil Association, RSPCA Assured, EHO, Trading Standards) e.g. traceability, paperwork, compliance evidence.

System:

1. Maintaining the Food Safety Quality Management System in QPulse, including user access, updating forms etc, CAPA module in QPulse, updating technical and hygiene documentation.

2. Supporting the supply partner management programme, including the approved supplier and specification database, including the completion of risk assessments and supply chain mapping.

3. Supporting with the use and access of other internal systems, including temperature monitoring and check weigher systems.

4. Working with the VACCP, TACCP, HACCP systems to ensure they remain up to date, such as updating process flow diagrams, risk assessments and associated documentation.

5. Providing traceability information and sales reporting data for standards to which the technical team are responsible for.

6. Assisting in mass balances and traceability exercises for raw materials, ingredients, packaging and final products in accordance with the planned schedule.

7. Supporting the administration of internal auditing processes and conducting internal audits, recipe audits and GMP audits where required, as per the Internal Audit Schedule.

8. Supporting the implementation of the Food Safety Culture Plan.

Key attributes of the candidate:

Level of Formal Education:

SVQ in Food Manufacturing preferable

Area of Study:

Science-based preferable

Years of Experience:

Minimum 6 months experience in a food-related industry

Type of Experience:

Previous experience in food manufacturing environment (Fish processing experience an advantage)

Experience working cross functionally

Experience dealing with retailer specifications and databases

Technical Competencies:

Aquascot Partner Induction

Qualified BRC Internal Audit or equivalent (minimum)

Level 2 Food Safety (minimum),

HACCP Level 2 (minimum),

Basic Allergen Training

Understanding of Health & Safety and Hygiene risks

Company / Departmental Quality Assurance Processes

Skills and Ability:

Good written and verbal communication skills

Basic understanding of food safety legislation

Flexible and adaptable to meet customer / business requirements

Knowledge & experience of Microsoft office

Good organisational and project working skills

Thoroughness and attention to detail

To have a flexible attitude to work and tasks undertaken
