Role Overview and Responsibilities
The Junior New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer will be responsible for assisting in the transition of new products from design to full-scale manufacturing, designing prototype lines, implementing continuous improvement initiatives, incorporating Poke Yoke techniques, and controlling Bills of Material (BOM) utilising SAP. This role requires a strong blend of technical skills, experience of SMT production and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
The key responsibilities will be:
Design of Prototype Line
Assist in the development and design of efficient prototype manufacturing processes and production lines for new products.
Create detailed layout plans for prototype equipment, materials, and workflows to optimise production efficiency and quality.
Collaborate with design, quality, and production teams to ensure manufacturability and scalability of prototypes.
Validate compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements during prototype design.
Continuous Monitoring and Improvement
Collect and analyse production data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and areas of waste during prototype runs.
Assist in the development and implement improvement initiatives.
Assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions for issues identified during prototype production.
Work with the Quality Assurance team to ensure prototype processes meet quality standards and drive improvements.
Control of Bills of Material (BOM) Utilising SAP
Manage and control BOMs for new products to ensure accuracy and completeness in SAP.
Update and maintain BOMs to reflect engineering changes, product revisions, and manufacturing process updates.
Collaborate with design engineering, procurement, and production teams to ensure BOM integrity during the NPI phase.
Perform regular audits of BOMs to ensure consistency between the SAP system and physical prototypes.
Assist in troubleshooting and assist to resolve any discrepancies related to BOMs in SAP during prototype production.
Qualifications and experience
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
There may be the opportunity for study to gain the required level of qualification.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on new product introduction or Surface Mount Technology, preferably in a contract electronics manufacturing environment.
Technical Skills: (Essential)
Understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, and technologies for prototype development.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
Awareness in managing BOMs using SAP or similar ERP systems.
Technical Skills: (Desirable)
Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., IPC, ISO13485, ISO9001 and IATF16494).

Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.
Strong technical skills in Surface Mount Technology.
