Job Description

We wish to appoint, for an immediate start, an enthusiastic and caring Teaching Assistant to support our classroom teachers in providing an environment conducive to learning and inclusive of all pupils. The postholder will be required to supervise pupils and assist where appropriate to ensure effective learning outcomes are achieved in addition to supporting the pastoral, social and welfare needs of pupils during their attendance at school.

Responsible to:

Head of Junior School for day-to-day line management.

Responsible for:

Under the direction of the classroom teacher, providing an environment conducive to learning and inclusive of all pupils. Supervising pupils and assisting when appropriate to ensure effective learning outcomes are achieved. Supporting the pastoral, social and welfare needs of pupils during their attendance at school.

Main responsibilities:

Support for Pupils

1.Supervise and support pupils with their learning, including individual, group, and whole-class support, both in lessons and intervention sessions.

2.Encourage and support pupils to be motivated, engaged, and active learners, contributing to their academic progress.

3.Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that fosters curiosity and confidence.

4.Promote the school's culture and values, encouraging pupils' behaviour and conduct to reflect these consistently.

5.Foster wellbeing by building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and interacting according to individual needs and personalities.

6.Provide focused feedback to pupils on achievement, progress, and behaviour, helping them understand and improve.

7.Actively protect children's emotional and physical wellbeing, following school policies on safeguarding, first aid, and behaviour.

8.Supervise and care for pupils outside lessons, including during breaks, lunchtimes, and transitions.

9.Promote inclusion across the school community, ensuring all children -- including those with SEND -- can participate fully in their learning.

10.Support children in their daily routines and organisation, encouraging independence and responsibility.

11.Assist with informal assessments and observations to help identify learning needs and inform teacher planning.

Support for Junior School Teachers



1.Support lesson delivery by setting up activities, preparing resources, and helping pupils achieve learning objectives in line with school expectations.

2.Provide pupil insights by offering feedback on progress, behaviour, and engagement, and assist in developing individual education and behaviour plans.

3.Complete and update records accurately, including first aid reports, safeguarding logs, and learning observations.

4.Support classroom logistics by organising resources, managing displays, and maintaining a safe, organised learning space.

5.Help with off-site educational trips, sports events, and enrichment activities, ensuring pupil safety and engagement.

6.Support the use of digital tools and learning platforms to enhance pupil engagement and access to learning.

1.Uphold school policies and procedures relating to child protection, data protection, equality, and health and safety.

2.Proactively seek out and engage in ongoing training and professional development relevant to the role.

3.Collaborate professionally with colleagues across the school, contributing to a cohesive classroom and school-wide team.

4.Demonstrate initiative and flexibility in supporting the evolving needs of pupils, teachers, and the wider school community.

Person Specification



Qualifications Essential Desirable

5 GCSEs at grade 9 to 4 (Ato C) or equivalent, including English and Mathematics
Level 3 qualification supporting pupils in education

Knowledge and Experience



Experience of providing support within a classroom or learning environment

Proficiency with IT e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel etc

Experience of delivering basic First Aid
